Manchester City will attempt to complete a domestic double on Sunday when they meet Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. City sealed the Women’s Super League title in Andrée Jeglertz’s first season in charge and were boosted this week when top scorer Khadija Shaw committed her long-term future to the club.
City reached the final after a dramatic semifinal against Chelsea. Trailing 2-0, Mary Fowler pulled one back in the 86th minute, and Shaw levelled in second-half stoppage time to send the match to extra time, where she then scored the winner.
For Brighton it is the first appearance in a women’s FA Cup final. The Seagulls also produced a comeback in their semifinal, overturning a 2-0 deficit to beat Liverpool 3-2 when Dutch midfielder Nadine Noordam struck the decisive goal in the 95th minute. Brighton finished seventh in the WSL this season and posted late-season results that included draws with Arsenal and Manchester United and a league win over City; Madison Haley and Kiko Seike have been notable performers in wide areas.
The final kicks off on Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m. BST (10 a.m. ET; 5:30 p.m. IST; and 12 a.m. AEST Monday) at Wembley Stadium. Melissa Burgin is the match referee. The game will be shown on Channel 4, TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and HBO Max in the U.K., on ESPN+ in the U.S., on SonyLIV in India and on Stan Sport in Australia; ESPN will provide live updates, according to ESPN.
Team news lists Iman Beney and Laura Wienroither as out for Manchester City, while Brighton are likely to have a full squad available for selection. Owner Tony Bloom has described the match as the biggest day in the history of the club’s women’s team. Having ended Chelsea’s recent dominance of the WSL, City now aim to add further silverware and build sustained success.
