Clash of Champions Recap: All Retain Except Rusev

Tonight is Clash of Champions, Monday Night Raw’s first brand-specific Pay-Per-View since the draft. The theme for the night is that every championship will be defended. TJ Perkins, The New Day, Charlotte, Rusev, and Kevin Owens will all defend their titles tonight. With Backlash, SmackDown’s show two weeks ago, in the books, how will the red brand compare?

Alicia Fox vs. Nia Jax
Alicia Fox did not like how Nia Jax destroyed her friend in a match on Raw, and after a backstage confrontation, the two collided the following week. That match would go to a no contest after Jax speared Fox through the barricade, and they have a rematch tonight. As Fox has seen first hand, Jax is a dominant force that has torn through everyone in her path on Raw.

Alicia Fox gives Jax the toughest challenge yet. Fox almost pins Jax after a scissors kick, but Jax turns the tables very quickly. After a Samoan drop, Jax puts Fox away to continue her undefeated streak. Winner: Nia Jax

Predicted Winner: Nia Jax (1/1)

The New Day (c) vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson – Raw Tag Team Championships
Gallows and Anderson have been chasing the Raw Tag Team Championships for months, beginning when they were still with AJ Styles. After a non-title victory over the New Day on Raw, the former Club members look to win the gold/copper/bronze/titles.

Gallows and Anderson have a strong game plan going in, but after taking Gallows out at ringside and hitting Anderson with Francesca II, Big E and Kofi Kingston hit the Midnight Hour to retain the titles. This will bring their tag title reign to at least 400 days. Winners, and STILL Raw Tag Team Champions: The New Day

Predicted Winners: Gallows & Anderson (1/2)

TJ Perkins (c) vs. Brian Kendrick – WWE Cruiserweight Championship
To end the Cruiserweight Classic, TJ Perkins defeated Gran Metalik to win the tournament and the revived Cruiserweight Championship. Brian Kendrick also competed in the tournament, but would lose to Kota Ibushi in the third round. After Kendrick won a fatal four way match against Cedric Alexander, Gran Metalik, and Rich Swann and Monday Night Raw last week, he finds himself in a championship match tonight.

TJ Perkins kicks out of Sliced Bread, then locks in kneebar to force Brian Kendrick to tap out. Winner, and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: TJ Perkins

After the match, Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins shake hands, but Kendrick just suckered him in for a headbutt.

Predicted Winner: TJ Perkins (2/3)

Cesaro vs. Sheamus – Best of Seven Series (Match Seven)
Sheamus started this Best of Seven Series 3-0, but Cesaro would manage to make a huge comeback to make it 3-3. Whoever wins this match tonight wins the series, and earns a future championship opportunity. The specific championship, however, has not been determined.

After they throw everything but the kitchen sink at each other, the referee and ringside personnel prevent the match from continuing. Result: No Contest

Prediction is null and void due to the no contest.

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho
Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho have started hating each other recently, but it does not have to them personally. It all boils down to WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens. We all know Zayn’s former friendship with Owens, but it’s Jericho’s recent friendship with Owens that has sparked this feud. Zayn and Jericho talked about it on the Highlight Reel, and Jericho would end up hitting Zayn with his iPhone. After that segment, the two settle things in the ring tonight.

Sami Zayn fails to hit the Helluva Kick three times, and Jericho suckers Zayn in for the Codebreaker and the win. Winner: Chris Jericho

Predicted Winner: Chris Jericho (3/4)

Charlotte (c) vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley – Raw Women’s Championship
At SummerSlam, Charlotte regained the Women’s Championship from Sasha Banks, and would injure Banks for a few weeks. In the meantime, Bayley would defeat Charlotte in a non-title match, leading to a #1 Contender’s match. Bayley and Sasha Banks would pin each other at the same time, making this a triple threat match.

Thanks to Dana Brooke’s interference, Charlotte hits Bayley with two big boots to pick up the victory and to retain her championship. Charlotte is now 12-0 in Pay-Per-View championship matches. Winner, and STILL Raw Women’s Champion: Charlote

Predicted Winner: Sasha Banks (3/5)

Rusev (c) (w/Lana) vs. Roman Reigns – United States Championship
Before SummerSlam, Roman Reigns interrupted the wedding celebration of Rusev and Lana. This somehow earned him a United States Championship match. It never took place at SummerSlam thanks to a pre-match brawl, and now that match happens tonight.

Lana gets a little too involved in the match, so the referee ejects her from the match. This would lead to Roman Reigns hitting a spear on Rusev to pick up the win, and the United States Championship. Winner, and NEW United States Champion: Roman Reigns

Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns (4/6)

Kevin Owens (c) vs. Seth Rollins – WWE Universal Championship
At SummerSlam, Finn Balor became the first Universal Champion by defeating Seth Rollins. Balor would get injured in that same match, and would have to vacate the title the following night on Raw. The following week, Kevin Owens would win a fatal four way match to win the Universal Championship, thanks to Triple H interfering. Tonight, Rollins gets a chance to win the title he was screwed out of.

Chris Jericho comes down to the ring, and during his presence at ringside, the referee got knocked out. A brawl ensues, and by the time another referee gets down to the ring, Kevin Owens hits a Pop-up Powerbomb on Seth Rollins to retain the title. Winner, and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens

Predicted Winner: Kevin Owens (5/7)
