Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers ATS Prediction

Although the Cavaliers were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in their last matchup, 109-105, they were able to cover as 9-point underdogs. The game’s total points (214) were under the O/U total of 222. Getting to the free throw line was one of Los Angeles’ biggest advantages. They had 28 free throw attempts, while Cleveland had 15. Cleveland’s Tristan Thompson played well, putting up 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The last time the 76ers played, they edged the New Orleans Pelicans, 121-120, but failed to cover as 3-point favorites. The game’s combined points (241) came in just over the O/U total of 238. Philadelphia held the Pelicans to an effective field goal percentage of 0.485 (below their season average of 0.540). New Orleans, on the other hand, had an offensive rebounding percentage of 35.7 (above their season average of 26.1). Joel Embiid was the game’s high scorer with 31 points on 11-for-23 shooting from the field.

After splitting four games last season, these teams will battle for the first time this year. The 76ers won the most recent contest 132-130. Philadelphia had a better turnover percentage (9.8 vs. 12.9). Cleveland, on the other hand, did a terrific job of making free throws (24-33; 72.7 percent).

Cleveland heads into the contest with records of 2-14 straight up (SU) and 8-8 against the spread (ATS). Cavaliers games have typically gone under the O/U total (62.5 percent).

Philadelphia has a respectable 13-7 SU record, but they are just 8-12 ATS. Unlike Cleveland, games featuring the 76ers tend to go over the total (65.0 percent).

Thompson and Collin Sexton have been playing well over the last five games for Cleveland. Thompson has averaged 13 rebounds,12.4 points per game. Not to be outdone, Sexton has put up 19 points a game during that span.

Conflicting tempos will be on display in this battle. Philadelphia has preferred to play up-tempo (fourth in possessions per game), while Cleveland has been slower-paced (28th in possessions per game). Also, the Cavaliers are among the league’s best on the offensive backboards, ranking fourth in offensive rebounding percentage (26.8 percent). The 76ers, meanwhile, rank fourth in defensive rebounding percentage (79.1 percent).
