The Los Angeles Clippers have officially parted ways with veteran guard Chris Paul, as confirmed by the organization on Tuesday. Paul, a former All-Star and prominent figure in the NBA for nearly two decades, was sent home from the team’s current road trip. Team officials stated that he is no longer part of the team, concluding a brief and unexpected chapter in his second stint with the franchise.

Paul, 40, rejoined the Clippers earlier this year but struggled to find a consistent role within the team’s rotation. He previously spent six seasons with the team between 2011 and 2017, playing a key role in shaping the franchise’s competitive identity during that period. His return to Los Angeles had sparked interest among fans and analysts, although his on-court production had declined in recent seasons due to age and injuries.

The Clippers have not released explicit details regarding the decision, but sources close to the team suggest that the move was mutually agreed upon. Head coach Tyronn Lue and team executives reportedly met with Paul earlier this week to inform him of their intention to go in a different direction. As a result, Paul was sent home ahead of the team’s current road trip.

Paul’s brief reunion with the Clippers saw him appear in limited minutes off the bench. He brought veteran leadership to the locker room but had difficulty adjusting to the team’s newer, faster-paced system. The Clippers currently hold a playoff-contending position in the Western Conference and appear to be focusing on fostering a younger core of players moving forward.

It remains unclear what the next step will be for Paul, who has previously stated his desire to continue playing. A number of teams in need of experienced backcourt help could express interest, depending on how Paul and his representatives decide to proceed. For now, he exits a Clippers team that appears poised to develop its younger talent as the season progresses.

This development marks the end of an era and possibly one of the final chapters in the storied career of one of the league’s most respected point guards.
