College Football Free Betting Preview: Arkansas State Red Wolves vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

A couple of schools that prefer to mix in a lot of running plays, Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina (+6) are set to greet their conference counterpart Arkansas State Red Wolves (-6) in Brooks Stadium. ESPN+ owns the TV rights and the game’s scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.

In this Saturday Sun Belt game, Arkansas State is projected as the favorite and is currently giving up 6 points. The Red Wolves are also receiving -240 moneyline odds while the Chanticleers are +190. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 61 points, and there will likely be multiple good in-game betting scenarios for this showdown.

Back on November 3, Appalachian State got the win against this Coastal Carolina team by a score of 23-7. The Chanticleers defense let the Mountaineers kill the clock by rushing for 278 yards on 56 attempts, including two rush TDs. Darrynton Evans was on a different level for Appalachian State, putting up 159 rushing yards and a score on 27 attempts. As a group, the Chanticleers collectively completed 14-of-26 passes for 106 yards and one interception. Fred Payton went 10-for-16 for 79 yards and one interception while Kilton Anderson was four-of-10 for 27 yards. Payton (5 rushing yards on nine attempts) mounted the ground game in the defeat while Malcolm Williams (five receptions, 32 yards) and Outlow (four catches, 20 yards) led the Coastal Carolina pass-catchers.

Arkansas State’s run the ball on 50.1 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Coastal Carolina has an overall rush percentage of 70.1 percent. The Red Wolves have run for 181 yards per game (including 174 per game against Sun Belt opponents) and have 14 touchdowns via handoffs this year. The Chanticleers are averaging 232 rush yards per game (210 in conference) and have 19 total rushing TDs.

It seems like the Red Wolves may be the more disruptive team in the trenches. Their offensive line has yielded only 35 sacks while the D-line registered 35 sacks. The Chanticleers offensive line has given up 28 sacks and their defense has forced only 15 sacks.

Passing-wise, Hansen has put up 2,127 yards this season. The signal-caller has connected on 186-of-287 attempts with 17 scores through the air and only five interceptions. He’s got a 7.07 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 9.26 over the last two games.

Justin McInnis (551 receiving yards, four receiving touchdowns this season), Kirk Merritt (395 receiving yards, two receiving TDs) and Marcel Murray (453 rush yards, three rush TDs, one TD) have each played big roles lately.

Fred Payton has connected on 18-of-26 passes for 220 yards, two TDs and two INTs for Coastal Carolina. His ANY/A sits at 5.17 for the year and 6.33 over his last two outings.

Torrance Marable (447 rushing yards, five rush TDs, 54 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns on the year), Malcolm Williams (517 receiving yards, three receiving TDs) and Ky’Jon Tyler (16 rush yards, 294 receiving yards, two receiving TDs) have combined for 405 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns the last two games.

These two schools met last year with the final outcome being a 51-17 win for Arkansas State.
