Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at Massachusetts Minutemen Betting Preview

The Chanticleers head into this Saturday game as the underdog and are currently receiving 4 points. The Chanticleers are also receiving +155 moneyline odds while the Minutemen are -175. There should be some decent live betting possibilities while the game is taking place, and oddsmakers have placed the over/under (O/U) at a sky-high 74.5 points.

The Chanticleers have gained 0.3 units so far and are 3-3 against the spread (ATS). The team’s posted an Over-Under record of 3-2. The Minutemen have lost 3.0 units for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 2-5 ATS and own an O/U record of 6-1.

The Chanticleers are 3-3 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Minutemen are 2-5 SU.

Each team comes into this matchup on a two-game losing skid. The Chanticleers fell to Louisiana-Monroe 45-20 in a blowout where their defense allowed the Warhawks to run for 242 yards on 34 rush attempts, including five rush TDs. Derrick Gore had a productive day for the Warhawks in that one with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 attempts. On the offense, Bryce Carpenter completed just nine-of-19 passes for 133 yards and one interception. Carpenter (56 yards on 17 rush attempts) also led the ground attack and was complemented by Marcus Outlow (104 yards on 15 carries, one TD) in the loss. Malcolm Williams (four receptions, 87 yards) and Ky’Jon Tyler (two catches, 11 yards) handled the receiving duties.

Back on October 6, South Florida knocked off this Massachusetts crew by a score of 58-42. The Minutemen defense let the Bulls rush for 365 yards on 41 attempts, including five rush TDs. Jordan Cronkrite was a force to be reckoned with, putting up 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 23 attempts for South Florida. As a group, the Minutemen collectively completed 33-of-52 passes for 401 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Andrew Ford went 19-for-27 for 199 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while Ross Comis was 12-of-23 for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Ross Comis (50 rushing yards on 11 attempts, one TD) and Jordan Fredericks (16 yards on 11 carries) spearheaded the ground game in the defeat as Andy Isabella (13 receptions, 191 yards, one TD) and Samuel Emilus (three catches, 45 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching attack.

Coastal Carolina’s run the ball on 71.5 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Massachusetts has a rush percentage of 47.8 percent. The Chanticleers have produced 247 rush yards per game and have 15 scores via handoffs this year. The Minutemen are averaging 132 rush yards per game and have 14 total rushing TDs.

The Chanticleers offensive scheme has averaged 174 yards through the air overall and has 10 passing TDs so far. The Minutemen have produced 283 pass yards per outing and have 18 total pass scores.

Defensively, Coastal Carolina should have the upper hand in both facets. The team has allowed opponents to run for an average of 233 yards and pass for 202 yards per game. The Massachusetts defense has given up 225.0 yards per game to opposing passers and 271.7 yards per game on the ground. The Chanticleers are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of 7.63 to opposing QBs, while the Minutemen have given up an 8.44 ANY/A.

Offensively, Carpenter has put up 261 passing yards on the year. The signal-caller has completed 58 percent of his 31 attempts with three passing scores and one interception. He’s got a 6.43 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number sits at 2.61 over the last two games.

Andrew Ford has completed 68-of-105 passes for 685 yards, four TDs and four INTs for Massachusetts. His ANY/A stands at a less-than-spectacular 4.91 for the year and 8.31 across his past two outings.

These two teams met a year ago with the final result being a 38-28 win for Coastal Carolina.
