College Football’s Biggest Spread Movements: Week 4

Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

New quarterbacks getting their shot — or second shot in a certain case — and star running backs lead the way for this week’s biggest odds movers.

We have our second-straight week with the odds changing in the favor of an original underdog, so let’s take a look to see the spread movements over the past few days.

Auburn at Arkansas, 7:30 p.m. SEC Network

Open: Auburn -24

Current: Auburn -30

Arkansas announced this week that Ty Storey would take over the starting quarterback duties for the Razorbacks, who are off to a 1-2 start with back-to-back losses to Colorado State and North Texas.

Storey was 12-of-17 for 261 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win against Eastern Illinois, but in Week 2 he threw two interceptions and hit the bench.

Things haven’t gotten better for Arkansas since, so Storey will be sent back out to the field to take on Auburn. The oddsmakers aren’t confident in Storey as the line jumped for the Tigers from -24 up to -30.

Stanford at Oregon, 8 p.m. ABC

Open: Oregon -1.5

Current: Stanford -2

Stanford running back and Heisman Trophy hopeful Bryce Love is back after a missing the UC Davis win last week and that changed everything for the oddsmakers.

The Cardinal were 1.5-point underdogs at the start of the week, but since Love is a go, Oregon is now a two-point underdog in its own stadium Saturday night.

Love is a difference maker and this should be a great PAC-12 game.

South Alabama at Memphis, 8 p.m.

Open: Memphis -27.5

Current: Memphis -31

The reason for this slight bump for Memphis isn’t quite clear. Perhaps it’s just how bad the Tigers beat up on Georgia State, which won a bowl game last season.

South Alabama is coming off its first win of the season, but Memphis is still the overwhelming favorite in this one.

Texas State at UTSA, 7 p.m.

Open: UTSA -11

Current: UTSA -7.5

It has been a tough stretch for UTSA through the first three weeks of the season as the Roadrunners hosted Baylor and visited Arizona State and Kansas State and got crushed in all three.

UTSA’s start is the biggest reason I’ve seen for the drop in confidence in this one, but still the Roadrunners are tested and are hungry for win No. 1 of the season.

UNC Charlotte at UMass, 3:30 p.m.

Open: UMass -10.5

Current: UMass -7.5

UNC-Charlotte is coming off a tight win and are at 2-1 heading into this one at UMass.

The 49ers are still considered the underdog, but don’t be surprised if they keep this one against the struggling Minutemen closer or take it altogether.
