Colorado Rockies vs. Texas Rangers Odds

Texas (+120) is coming into this one as the underdog to Colorado (-130) and Vegas has set the Over/Under for this afternoon’s game at 10.5 runs (+100 for the over and -120 for the under). Runline odds sit at +115 for taking the Rockies -1.5 runs and -135 for the Rangers +1.5 runs.

The Rangers are only 28-44 straight up (SU) and 31-40 against the spread (ATS). The team has lost 7.4 units for moneyline bettors and 15.3 units (ATS). Texas has a 3-4 ATS mark over its last seven games and the total has gone over in four of those seven. The Rockies have gone 34-36 SU this year and are 33-36 ATS. In total, the team’s lost 1.4 units for moneyline gamblers and 3.6 units ATS. Colorado is 3-4 ATS over its last seven games and the over has cashed in six of those seven.

Neither team has established itself as an obvious over/under play this year. Rangers games have had an over/under record of 33-33-5 so far in 2018. The Rockies have an over/under record of 33-33-3.

Jon Gray will get the nod for the visiting Rockies. The right-handed Gray is 6-7 with a 5.68 ERA and 91 strikeouts. He has yet to face the Rangers this year and did not record a start against them in 2017, either.

The Rangers will put the ball in the right hand of Yovani Gallardo (0-0, 30.86 ERA, 5.14 WHIP), who’s got two punchouts and four walks. Gallardo only made one start against the Rockies in 2017 (0-1, 15.00 ERA and two strikeouts across three innings).

Texas’ pitchers have allowed 5.3 runs per game overall this season as a unit. Its starters have a 5.59 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 3.62 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 8.2 K/9.

Texas’ offense has produced 4.2 runs per outing, including 4.7 per game over its last 10 games and 4.8 per game over its last five. The team’s hit .274/.359/.377 over its last five matchups and is 1-4 SU during that span.

Shin-soo Choo and Nomar Mazara have led the Rangers’ hitters this year. Choo is slashing .275/.387/.464 with 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 41 runs scored, and Mazara’s line is .260/.329/.484 with 14 homers, 42 RBIs and 37 runs.

For the visiting squad, Colorado’s pitching staff allowed 5.1 runs per game and its starters own a 4.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8.32 K/9. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 5.30, along with a K-per-9 of 8.94.

Rockies hitters have slashed .246/.316/.408 on their way to 4.5 runs scored per game in 2018, including 5.0 runs per game over the team’s last 10 games and 5.0 per game over the team’s last five contests (2-3 SU).

Colorado’s hitters have been paced by third baseman Nolan Arenado and right fielder Charlie Blackmon. Arenado is slashing .308/.401/.550 with 13 home runs, 41 RBIs and 44 runs scored, while Blackmon (.279/.357/.489) is up to 13 homers, 32 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

The Rockies have gained 1.2 units and are 20-24 ATS when facing a righty starter this season. The over has hit in 23 of those games, compared to 20 that’ve gone under against right-handed starting pitchers. On the other hand, the Rangers have lost 4.3 units and are 21-27 ATS when facing a righty starter. The over’s hit in 20 of those games, compared to 26 that went under the total.
