Cowboys News: Owner Jerry Jones Irritated By Officiating Against Packers

Truly, the Dallas Cowboys are always relevant. Whether you view them as good, bad, or indifferent; they provide sites like this one with something to write about week after week.

Remember, last week ended with owner Jerry Jones comparing quarterback Dak Prescott to Tom Brady. On Sunday, the Cowboys lost at home to the Green Bay Packers 34-24 in one of the week’s most hyped match-ups.

Now, the Cowboys’ owner is taking some issue with the NFL’s officials who worked the game. The report is that Cowboys’ coach Jason Garrett was flagged for ‘abusive language’ after throwing the challenge flag.

Obviously, Jerry Jones didn’t think that this was worthy of a penalty of any sort. Here’s what he had to say, and you get the feeling he’s not trying to humor anyone with the comment.

“Oh, I hope the little darling didn’t hear something he hadn’t heard before,” Jones said. “We should all stop the wheel over that if he got [a penalty for] abusive language.”

Moreover, this is the first time I can recall hearing an NFL owner referring to an official as a ‘little darling’. While it’s not meant to be funny, it really is. Furthermore, I’m not sure if I like what Jones said or not; but the flags seem to be at an all-time high.

Certainly that’s where the issue truly lies. Indeed, Jones is an old-school owner who probably wants the game played closer to how it was when his tenure began in the late 80’s and early 90’s. While the NFL has made some strides in areas of the game to protect player safety, the games had less stoppages due to flags in previous decades.

Finally, Jones and his team had a really tough time of it Sunday. While entering the game against the Packers as four-point favorites, they lost by ten to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

Dak Prescott threw for almost 500 yards, but also threw three back-breaking interceptions that could have been the difference in the ballgame. For example, take a look at the owner’s box after his third interception. Again, I don’t think this is meant to be as funny as it is. Still, you can’t help by grin a little bit; even if you’re fond of Dallas’ organization like I am.

It’s interesting to see what develops of this story. Surely, Jones can expect some type of fine that he will pay with what amounts to spare change to him. Equally important, the Cowboys have to wonder where they stand with a 3-2 record and in the middle of the pack as far as contending teams in the NFC.

It’s going to be a drama-filled season in Dallas, and all is right with the world.
