The Dallas Cowboys opened 2026 training camp in Oxford, California, with team reporters on site documenting daily developments, according to Cowboys reporter Todd Archer. Archer reports the Cowboys entered camp largely healthy for the first time in years. No players were placed on the physically unable to perform or non-football injury lists to begin camp, giving the staff the chance to run a full roster during early practices.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the staff will monitor certain players who spent much of the offseason rehabbing. Cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) and edge defender Donovan Ezeiruaku (hip) have been cleared to practice, but Schottenheimer indicated their workloads will be managed as camp progresses.
Wide receiver George Pickens, who had career highs in 2025 with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, is slated to play the 2026 season on the $27.3 million franchise tag, Archer wrote. Schottenheimer noted Pickens arrived to camp noticeably engaged in meetings and preparations, a sign the coach called encouraging for the offense and worrisome for opponents.
Archer’s reporting underscores an organized, health-focused opening to Cowboys camp as coaches evaluate depth and competition across the roster. Questions remain about the team’s ability to improve after a difficult 2025, and the daily updates will chart which players separate themselves and which roster candidates remain on the bubble.
The Cowboys’ camp file will be refreshed frequently, Archer said, with the most substantive reporting expected through the first full week of preseason practices beginning Aug. 13.
