Danilo Gallinari diagnosed with MCL tear in left knee

A non-contact knee injury was sustained by the seasoned Italian forward during a FIBA World Cup qualifying game on Saturday. The injury, which Gallinari sustained while competing for Italy in a FIBA World Cup qualifying game on Saturday, was originally reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The 6-foot-10 Italian scored 17 points before sustaining a non-contact knee injury in Italy’s 91-84 victory over Georgia in Brescia.

The 13-year NBA veteran was traded to then released by the San Antonio Spurs earlier this offseason before agreeing to a two-year contract with the Eastern Conference champion Boston. After playing on five different clubs (NYK, DEN, LAC, OKC, and ATL), Gallinari eventually helped the Atlanta Hawks reach the Eastern Conference finals in 2021 before losing to Milwaukee. With the Hawks last year, he averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. It is unknown how this injury may impact his performance.
