Darvin Ham will replace Frank Vogel as coach for the Lakers

According to a source familiar with the matter, Darvin Ham has accepted an offer to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The individual talked to The Associated Press on Friday under the condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been made public.

The 48-year-old Ham will become the Lakers’ 28th head coach in franchise history. Since 2018, he has served as Mike Budenholzer’s assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, and he was instrumental in the team’s 2021 NBA championship run.

Frank Vogel, who was dismissed one day after the Lakers completed one of the most disastrous seasons in NBA history by finishing 33-49 and missing the playoffs, will be replaced by Ham. LeBron James greeted his new head coach on social media before the transfer was officially disclosed, but the Lakers still failed to achieve success despite James’s stellar play.
