Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik publicly complimented quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for his approach and professionalism following his benching during the 2025 NFL season. Speaking at a press conference, Slowik noted Tagovailoa’s response to the situation, highlighting the quarterback’s character and ability to remain focused despite the challenging circumstances.
“Tua showed real maturity,” Slowik said. “He stayed engaged and supportive of the team, which isn’t easy in that kind of situation.”
Tagovailoa, who was the team’s starter for most of the 2025 season, was benched late in the year amid inconsistent performances and shifting team dynamics. Despite speculation surrounding his future with the Dolphins, Slowik declined to provide any details on the organization’s long-term plans for the quarterback position.
“We’re still in our process for evaluating this offseason,” Slowik said. “There’s a lot that goes into this, and we’re going to take our time to make the best decisions for the team moving forward.”
The Dolphins face a pivotal offseason after finishing the 2025 regular season with mixed results. While Tagovailoa’s play had both strong stretches and lapses, Miami’s offensive production fluctuated, contributing to internal evaluations of personnel and strategy as the team prepares for 2026.
Tagovailoa, a former first-round draft pick, has shown flashes of high-level play during his tenure with the Dolphins but has also dealt with periods of inconsistency and injuries. With contract decisions looming and potential changes to the quarterback depth chart possible, Miami’s approach in the coming months could signal a shift in philosophy or continued confidence in its current roster.
Slowik, who joined the Dolphins staff ahead of the 2025 season, emphasized collaboration between the coaching staff and front office in all personnel matters. Until the team announces its direction, questions about Tagovailoa’s role in 2026 will remain.
“We respect what Tua brings to the table,” Slowik said. “Right now, it’s about making sure we have the best plan in place for our team. That process is ongoing.”
