Drew Gilbert and Frank Anderson have been thrown out of the NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Tournament matchup between Tennessee and Notre Dame has created a frenzy in Knoxville. The Super Regionals began on Friday night, with the first game pitting both teams against one other. The Irish hitters’ pyrotechnics and the Vols’ tantrums have already sparked debate in Knoxville.

With Notre Dame ahead 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Tennessee outfielder Drew Gilbert was up to bat, but what happened next might shift the complexion of the Saturday rematch. According to a video of the event, after the home plate umpire ruled a strike, Gilbert turned around and informed the umpire that the call was “F—-ing Terrible.” Even without lip-reading, it is rather evident what he says despite the lack of a voice in the video.

Following Gilbert’s dismissal, Tennessee’s pitching coach rushed out of the dugout and communicated his opinions with the home plate umpire, prompting his removal as well. Because of the expulsion, both Gilbert and Anderson will be forced to miss Saturday’s game, according to NCAA regulations.
