Drew Singleton’s career at Rutgers effectively ended after the NCAA rejected his final plea for reinstatement

The collegiate football career of Drew Singleton has ended. This Monday, the NCAA rejected the Rutgers linebacker’s third and final request for reinstatement, eliminating any chance that he would have been able to compete in the 2022 season utilizing his final year of eligibility.

The summer saw the denial of Singleton’s original request for reinstatement following his failure to be selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, as well as his subsequent appeal. Greg Schiano, the head coach of the Scarlet Knights, stated that there was one final attempt, and Rutgers was going to make it count. The NCAA made a final decision against them this week.

Schiano issued a statement saying, “I am profoundly disappointed with the NCAA’s decision to deprive Drew Singleton the opportunity to return this season and use his last year of eligibility. After Drew returned to participate in our bowl game, there were unquestionably mitigating circumstances. He personifies what it means to be a Rutgers student-athlete.”
