EINTRACHT FRANKFURT vs. SV WERDER BREMEN – Round 28

Werder Bremen

The Premier matchup of the German Bundesliga round 28 is between the Eintracht Frankfurt who will host the SV Werder Bremen. The two teams are in different form as of late with the hosts playing terrible and not recording a single win in their last 8 matches, while the visitors have been undefeated for almost 2 months, winning 6 matches and recording only 1 draw. The last time the two teams met, Eintracht played in a great form and managed to defeat Werder with 2:1 away. Werder now hopes to revenge the home loss but it won’t be easy  considering that they have not won in Frankfurt since 2009.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

Bad period of results for Eintracht Frankfurt continued on Tuesday when they got defeated on the road by FC Koln, 1:0. They haven’t won a game since February 5th (eight in a row) and are scoreless in the last four consecutive games. Thanks to a solid first part of the season they are currently ranked eighth in the league with 37 points in 27 games.

With this disastrous streak it looks like they’ve ruined their chances of seeing some European football next year. They are 0-2-6 in the last eight games and 0-2-2 in the last four games. During this span that started two months ago with a 3:0 loss on the road by Leverkusen, Eintracht scored only one goal and conceded 13. They are 6-5-2 at home with 17-11 goal difference (overall) and they rank ninth in the home league table with 23 of 39 possible points earned. 59% of Frankfurt’s home matches are under 2.5 goals and 93% of their games are under 3.5 goals in total.

Most common result at home is a 0:0 draw (occurred three times). In 38% of Eintracht matches both teams manage to score and in 54% of their games at home they’ve ended the match with no goals conceded. Alexander Meier leads the team in scoring this season with five goals while Branimir Hrgota and Marco Fabian have four and three goals in their accounts. Fabian tops the team in assists with four so far while Bastian Oczipka and Jesus Vallejo are most successful passers with 1094 and 957 total passes.

Yanni Regasel (Hip injury) and Makoto Hasebe (Knee injury) are both out for the season. Guillermo Varela (Ankle injury) and Slobodan Medojevic (Knee injury) are doubtful for Friday game while Soares de Oliveira Anderson is day to day and it’s uncertain if he will be available to coach Kovac.

SV WERDER BREMEN

Werder Bremen’s year looks quite opposite to Eintracht Frankfurt’s one. They started the season with four consecutive defeats and in late November they had only seven points after 11 games played. After another period of bad results that took place in the second part of January when it looked like Werder is one of the sure travelers to Bundesliga 2, they started to play rejuvenated and are currently tied with Bayern Munich for the first place in the league form table (includes the last eight games) with 19 points earned.

They are 6-1-1 during this span and it looks like they have no more concerns about the survival in the Bundesliga. Bremen is one of the above-average teams on the road this season as they’ve scored in each of their last 12 away games. They are 4-4-5 on the road this year (3-1-0 in last four games) with a 21-28 goal difference (42-46 overall) and they rank seventh in the away league table with 16 of 39 possible points earned. Werder Bremen have also scored in 92% of their away matches and 69% of their games on the road are over 2.5 goals while 62% of their road games are over 3.5 goals in total.

Most common results on the road are 2:2 and 1:1 draws and 3:1 loss (all occurred twice so far). Serge Gnabry is the team’s leading scorer this season with 10 goals so far while Max Kruse has eight goals in his account. Zlatko Junuzovic tops the team in assists with five so far while Fin Bartels and Clemens Fritz collected three assists each. Top passer is a defender Niklas Moisander with 778 total passes while Junuzovic has 643 so far.

Clemens Fritz (Ankle injury), Johannes Eggestein (Foot injury, Illness) and Eric Oelschlagel (Elbow injury) are all out for the season. Izet Hajrovic (Cruciate ligament injury) should be back in early May while Robert Bauer (Ankle injury) should be available in a few weeks. Thomas Delaney (Muscle injury), Ludovic Sane (Groin injury) and Justin Eilers (Ankle injury) are ale listed with minor injuries but all have unspecified date of return. Serge Gnabry (Knee injury, Thigh injury) is day to day and Philipp Bargfrede (Achilles tendon injury, Hip injury) should be available in few days.

When we look at the team’s recent form Werder Bremen is a clear favorite but both teams have to end their streaks sometime and this could be that game. Eintracht already defeated Werder once this season on the road 1:2 and a season sweep is a possibility. Having everything in mind my bet would be over 2.5 goals in total. I will throw in an additional pick for the brave ones, tipping the home team to win.

MY PICK: Over 2.5 goals (-101)

Additional Pick: Eintracht Frankfurt to win (+129)
