EPL Power Rankings For Round 8

EPL

Heading into another international break, the top four stays the same, with the favorites running away with it. There is a switch between two teams fighting to get into the top four, while at the bottom, one new team steps into the list, although these teams basically have no shot at the title. The teams from Manchester continue to dominate as both are tied for the lead in the league but have a clear buffer over third place. The two Manchester sides have 19 points while the next best team is at 14. Offense has been the name of the game for both sides as United has scored 21 goals so far – the second-most in the EPL – while City has 22 tallies. No other team in the league has more than 14 markers.

With that in mind, let’s take a minute to look through this week’s power rankings as the sports betting odds makers see them. These teams are ranked in terms of betting odds to win the EPL title.

1. Manchester City

Last Week: 1

EPL Title Odds: -150

Manchester City flexed their muscles as they sit atop the table after a 1-0 win at Chelsea, in which they were by far the dominant team. Kevin De Bruyne continued his great season with a goal against his former club, and he also scored in the Champions League as Manchester City won 2-0 at home over Shaktar Donestk. Raheem Sterling added a goal for City, who have scored 22 goals and allowed just two over the first seven league games of the season.

2. Manchester United

Last Week: 2

EPL Title Odds: +275

Manchester United sits second in the table after routing Crystal Palace 4-0 at home as Juan Mata scored an early goal, then Marouane Fellini netted a pair, followed by Romelu Lukaku’s seventh goal of the season, which leads the league. Lukaku also scored twice in a 4-1 win at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League as Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added singles for United. They’ve scored 21 goals in the league with two goals against as they look to keep pace with their crosstown rivals.

3. Chelsea

Last Week: 3

EPL Title Odds: +900

Chelsea is fourth in the table after their 1-0 loss at home to Manchester City, but even worse was the injury to Alvaro Morata, who is out for a while with a hamstring injury. Morata scored in the 2-1 midweek Champions League win at Atletico Madrid, along with Michy Batshuayi, who might need to step in for the striker. Morata has scored six goals in the league, one off the lead with two other players (Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Tottenham’s Harry Kane).

4. Tottenham

Last Week: 4

EPL Title Odds: +1400

Tottenham is third after a 4-0 win at Huddersfield Town in which Kane scored twice, along with Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko. Kane also bagged a hat trick in a 3-0 win at Apoel Nicosia, and an on-form Kane could keep Tottenham in the race to win the title if the favorites slip up. However, 12 of Tottenham’s 14 goals have come on the road and they’ll have to fix that down the line.

5. Arsenal

Last Week: 6

EPL Title Odds: +2500

Arsenal is up to fifth in the table after a 2-0 win at home over Brighton Hove and Albion, thanks to goals from Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi. In midweek Europa League action, Arsenal won 4-2 at BATE Borisov as Theo Walcott netted twice, while Rob Holding and Olivier Giroud added singles as Arsenal seems to be shaking themselves out of their early-season funk.

6. Liverpool

Last Week: 5

EPL Title Odds: +3300

Liverpool is seventh after a 1-1 draw at Newcastle as Philippe Coutinho struck for the visitors, but they couldn’t hold on to the league. Liverpool also drew 1-1 at Spartak Moscow in the Champions League thanks to Coutinho, who is back to his best after a long transfer saga with Barcelona. Liverpool needs him to be one of the best players in the league since their defense has allowed 12 goals, which is tied for fourth-worst in the league.

7. Everton

Last Week: 7

EPL Title Odds: +7500

Everton is sixth in the league after falling 1-0 at home to Burnley, and they also drew 2-2 against home against Apollon Limassol in which they allowed a goal after Apollon lost a man to a red card. Wayne Rooney and Nikola Vlasic scored in that game, but they need to find goals in the league, where they’ve scored just four. Manager Ronald Koeman could be on borrowed time if Everton can’t find the back of the net more often.

8. Burnley

Last Week: —

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Burnley is sixth in the table after their 1-0 win at Everton as Jeff Hendrick scored for the visitors, who have been great away from home so far. It was their second away win in four games, and the first was over Chelsea, while they’ve also gotten a point each at Liverpool and Tottenham. These are the points that can keep a team safe and if Burnley can stay healthy, they could make a run at finishing in the top half of the table, which would be a minor miracle.

9. Watford

Last Week: 9

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Watford is eighth after a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion as Abdoulaye Doucoure netted a single, and then Richarlison scored in injury time to give Watford a massive point as they fought back from a 2-0 deficit. Like Burnley, these are the games that can ensure that a team stays in the Premier League and maybe make a run at a European spot. They have to be better defensively as Watford has allowed 12 goals, which is tied with Liverpool for fourth-worst in the league, although just three of those goals have been away from home.

10. Newcastle

Last Week: 10

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Newcastle is ninth after their 1-1 draw at home with Liverpool as Joselu equalized for the home team. They shouldn’t be disappointed with a point as it took an excellent goal from Coutinho to give Liverpool the lead, but Newcastle fought back and they’ve been very good at the back so far this season, allowing six goals. However, they’ve scored just seven and they need to find a few more goals to solidify their spot in the Premier League after returning this season.
