EPL Fantasy: Week 22 Premier League Recap

Another strong defensive performance allowed the Premier League leaders Chelsea to pick up another three points on Sunday to extend their lead atop the table back to eight points. It should be no surprise that the Blues are once again represented on this list with top fantasy honors at a pair of positions. Here is a look at the top individual EPL fantasy performances by position in the Premier League from this past week.

GK: Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea

Chelsea managed two goals against Hull City and Courtois made sure that was more than enough to earn the victory as he stopped all four shots he faced to preserve the clean sheet win. Courtois has been absolutely outstanding for the Blues so far this season and was a difference maker again this past week as the top EPL fantasy performer at his position.

Chelsea continues to hold the top spot in the English Premier League. They have registered 55 points in 22 games this season and have lost just three times. They have been an excellent option for goalkeepers and defender in terms of EPL fantasy as they’ve allowed just 15 goals in 22 contests.

Honorable Mention: Ben Foster, West Brom; Joel Robles, Everton; Fraser Forster, Southampton

D: Gary Cahill, Chelsea

Cahill helped make sure that the Chelsea back line wasn’t broken with a strong defensive performance but he also pitched in at the offensive end where he scored in the 81st minute to seal the victory. Cahill finished with a goal on his lone shot and a clean sheet bonus that helped separate him from his competition as the top EPL fantasy defender in the Premier League this past week.

Honorable Mention: Seamus Coleman, Everton; Chris Brunt, West Brom

M: Roberto Firmino, Liverpool

Liverpool didn’t pick up the win over the weekend but Firmino still somehow managed to earn top fantasy honors at his position despite coming out on the wrong side of a surprising 3-2 loss to Swansea City. Firmino scored two goals in a span of 15 minutes to keep his side in the game and while it wasn’t enough to get the win he did earn a spot on this list. Liverpool is now in fourth place in the EPL standings with 45 points in 22 games. They have been the best team to look to in terms of offense when it comes to EPL fantasy. They lead the league with 51 goals scored so far.

M: Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City

Manchester City is another contending team that fell just short of picking up three points despite a formidable effort from one of their top midfielders. De Bruyne registered a goal and three shots in total to make sure his team earned at least a point in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham and earned the second spot on this list at his position with a strong EPL fantasy score. Man City now sits in fifth place in the EPL standings with 43 points, just two behind Liverpool. They have managed to score 43 goals in 22 games but they have been a bit weak at the back end where they’ve allowed 28 markers. That ties them for the most goals allowed by any team in the Top 8.

Honorable Mention: James Ward-Prowse, Southampton; Darren Fletcher, West Brom; Dusan Tadic, Southampton

F: Fernando Llorente, Swansea

Llorente helped spoil Firmino and Liverpool’s attempt at three points by scoring two goals on as many shots before he was substituted off late in the second half. The two goals came just four minutes apart in the 48th and 52nd minute with Gylfi Sigurdsson delivering the eventual game-winning goal in the 74th minute to help Swansea pull out a shocking victory over Liverpool.

F: Andy Carroll, West Ham

Carroll opened the scoring against Middlesbrough in the ninth minute and then added another marker in the 43rd minute with what would stand as the eventual game-winning goal. West Ham needed the victory to remain ahead of Southampton in the top-10 while Carroll wound up finishing with the second-best EPL fantasy score of the week at his position.

Honorable Mention: Troy Deeney, Watford; Andre Gray, Burnley; Wayne Rooney, Manchester United
