EPL Power Rankings For Round 18

EPL

Manchester City has opened up a 11-point lead at the top of the EPL after winning the Manchester derby. Even though the game was on the road, they came out on top. It was a significant win as United is the team that is closed to City in the standings. They’re not that close anymore as Manchester City has opened up an 11-point lead in the standings.

The season isn’t over yet as there is still lots of soccer left to be played, including the cup competitions in England and Europe. However, the tide will have to turn significantly as right now City is playing at a historically good pace and the rest of the league is a significant step behind.

1. Manchester City

Last Week: 1

EPL Title Odds: -2500

Manchester City got goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi in a 2-1 win at Manchester United, but they were accused of celebrating too loudly in their dressing rooms, which sparked a response from Manchester United players. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone will be disciplined, but Manchester City has a nice enough cushion that they can drop a game or two in the league. They’ll head to Swansea City on Wednesday and then host Tottenham on Saturday.

2. Manchester United

Last Week: 2

EPL Title Odds: +1600

Manchester United got an equalizer from Marcus Rashford in their loss to Manchester City at home, but they couldn’t keep their rivals from a winner. They’re also going to waiting for discipline from the post-match scenes, and they’ll also continue to miss Paul Pogba, who was suspended for the Manchester City game. He’ll won’t be available for a home game against Bournemouth on Wednesday and a road trip to West Brom on Sunday.

3. Chelsea

Last Week: 3

EPL Title Odds: +5000

Chelsea is three points behind Manchester United after a 1-0 loss at West Ham, and their title defense likely went up in smoke with that loss. But again, there is still a lot of time left in the season and Chelsea has to turn it around in case the top two start to slip. They’ll visit Huddersfield Town on Tuesday and then host Southampton on Saturday.

4. Liverpool

Last Week: 4

EPL Title Odds: +6600

Liverpool sits fourth in the table, two points behind Chelsea, after a 1-1 draw at home with Everton in the Merseyside derby. Mohamed Salah continued to roll as he scored for the home team, but Liverpool’s defense also continues to undermine any chances they have of moving up in the table. Liverpool has to get back on track on Tuesday as they host West Brom, and then on Sunday Liverpool will head to Bournemouth.

5. Tottenham

Last Week: 6

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Tottenham is sixth in the table after a 5-1 romp at home over Stoke City, as Ryan Shawcross scored an own-goal, and then the floodgates opened in the second half as Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and two goals from Harry Kane ended the game. Tottenham will host Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday in the league, and then they will visit the leaders at Manchester City.

6. Arsenal

Last Week: 5

EPL Title Odds: +15000

Arsenal sits a point ahead of Tottenham in the table after a 1-1 draw at Southampton as Olivier Giroud netted the equalizer with two minutes left in regulation to keep Arsenal’s season alive. Arsenal will try to keep their momentum going as they head to West Ham on Wednesday, and then they host Newcastle on Saturday. Arsenal might be under the most pressure in the league right now as they have stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who might be on the selling block with the January transfer window just around the corner.

7. Leicester City

Last Week: 7

EPL Title Odds: +50000

Leicester City is eighth in the table after a 3-2 win at Newcastle as they got goals from Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray, and a late own-goal from Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez sealed the deal. Leicester City will head to Southampton on Wednesday and then they will host Crystal Palace on Saturday, and they are another team that is under pressure going into the busy holiday period. Mahrez will be a wanted man in January and Leicester has to decide if they are going to hang on to their star man and go for a European place (they are five points behind Tottenham, who is in the final European spot), or cash in now and start building for the future.

8. Everton

Last Week: 9

EPL Title Odds: +150000

Everton got a penalty from Wayne Rooney to draw at Liverpool and they are still 10th in the table. Everton will head to Newcastle on Wednesday and then they will get an extra day off as they host Swansea City next Monday. Everton has played well in three games under Sam Allardyce and they held Liverpool at bay, but if they are going to move up in the table, they have to win these games this week.

9. Southampton

Last Week: 10

EPL Title Odds: +200000

Southampton jumped out to a lead over Arsenal as Charlie Austin scored in the third minute, but they couldn’t hold on a few more minutes and now, they sit 11th in the table. This week, Southampton hosts Leicester City and then they will travel to Chelsea. This is a big win for Southampton if they want to make a run at the top half of the table and they still have a stout defense, but their inability to score goals is still hurting them and they can’t afford to give up late goals.

10. Burnley

Last Week: —

EPL Title Odds: +250000

Burnley got a huge 1-0 win at home over Watford as Scott Arfield scored late in the first half, and now Burnley sits a surprising seventh in the table. They will host Stoke City on Tuesday and then travel to Brighton and Hove Albion. Speaking of an inability to score goals, Burnley has scored 15, one less than Southampton. However, they have allowed 12; only the Manchester clubs have allowed fewer goals. If Burnley is going to continue to be this stingy, they can stay in the top half of the table.
