EPL Power Rankings For Round 6

EPL

The power rankings for the EPL look like it’ll be a race played out in Manchester all season as the top two are running away from the pack. Currently, the top two teams – Manchester United and Manchester City – have amassed 13 points through five games. Only one other team in the entire EPL is in double digits (Chelsea). The defending champions are doing their best to stay in the mix, however, and at the bottom, there is a new entrant, although they’re still longshots to win it all. Here is a look at the latest futures and updated power rankings:

1. Manchester City

Last Week: 1

EPL Title Odds: +110

City sits at the top of the table after a 6-0 mauling of Watford on the road, powered by a hat trick from Sergio Aguero. Gabriel Jesus, Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling also scored for City, who have won their last three games overall (counting the Champions League) by a count of 15-0. They’re rolling right now as they prepare for an EFL Cup match at West Brom on Wednesday, and then City will host Crystal Palace on Saturday in EPL action.

2. Manchester United

Last Week: 2

EPL Title Odds: +275

United are second in the table after a 4-0 win at home over Everton, and they scored three goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. Antonio Valencia netted a stunning goal early, and then Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial added the late goals for United, who host Burton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, and then United will head to Southampton on Saturday in the EPL.

3. Chelsea

Last Week: 3

EPL Title Odds: +500

Chelsea was held to a 0-0 draw by Arsenal, and David Luiz received a red card late in the game, which will see him miss out on their next EPL match. It was a relatively even match and Chelsea could never really get the upper hand on Arsenal, so Chelsea will stay in third place in the table, three points behind the Manchester teams. They’ll host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday in the EFL Cup, and then on Saturday, they’ll travel to Stoke City for a tough away match in the EPL.

4. Tottenham

Last Week: 4

EPL Title Odds: +1400

Spurs are fifth in the table after drawing 0-0 at home with Swansea City in a game where they had 75% of the possession, and they have 26 shots on goal, along with eight on target. However, they couldn’t break down Swansea to get all three points as Tottenham are still looking for their first home win at Wembley in the EPL this season. They’ll host Barnsley in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then on Saturday, they’ll travel to West Ham in a London derby.

5. Liverpool

Last Week: 5

EPL Title Odds: +2500

Like Tottenham, Liverpool were held at home by a stubborn opponent as they drew 1-1 with Burnley, with Mohamad Salah scoring on the half-hour mark. Liverpool had 71% of the ball and 35 shots, along with nine on target, but they couldn’t make their advantage count and now they’re eighth in the table. Liverpool actually has back-to-back games at Leicester City this week as they head there for the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then they’re back for the EPL on Saturday.

6. Arsenal

Last Week: 6

EPL Title Odds: +2500

Arsenal sits 12th in the table after their draw at Chelsea, and it was about as good a draw as they could have hoped for. They had their chances to win, but more importantly, they were disciplined on the road against a strong Chelsea team and it was probably their best performance of the season so far. They can build on that as they host Doncaster in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, and then West Brom comes to town on Monday.

7. Everton

Last Week: 7

EPL Title Odds: +30000

Everton slipped down to 18th in the table as they were slammed at Manchester United, although Wayne Rooney was solid in his first game against United, where he played for 13 seasons and was their captain as well. However, the rest of the team wasn’t good enough and now they have to prioritize as they host Sunderland in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, and then Bournemouth in the EPL on Saturday, also at home. Everton has to stop this slide and soon, or it could be curtains for manager Ronald Koeman.

8. Leicester

Last Week: 8

EPL Title Odds: +50000

Leicester is 15th in the table after a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town as Jamie Vardy scored from the penalty spot to give Leicester a much-needed point. Leicester had just 10 shots on goal and one on target, and 40% of the possession as Huddersfield had the better numbers, but they showed their Premiership experience to get a point and now they head into two straight home games with Liverpool with a little confidence as they host them in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then again in the EPL on Saturday.

9. Newcastle

Last Week: —

EPL Title Odds: +75000

Newcastle enters the rankings and are fourth in the table after a 2-1 win at home over Stoke City. Christian Atsu and Jamaal Lascelles found the back of the net for Newcastle, who aren’t in the EFL Cup this week as they lost to Nottingham Forest. That could work to their advantage as they’ll be rested for a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. Newcastle is obviously going to prioritize the EPL this season, which is probably the smart thing to do.

10. Huddersfield Town

Last Week: 9

EPL Title Odds: +75000

Huddersfield is sixth after their 1-1 home draw with Leicester, and Laurent Depoitre scored on his debut for the club. However, they’ll feel that they should have picked up all three points and that is something that comes with Premiership experience. Still, Huddersfield is doing very well early in the season, and they’ll be on the road for their next two games. First, they’ll head to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then on Saturday, they’ll head to Burnley in the EPL. They’re still considered an extremely heavy underdog to win it all in the EPL this season. They’ve had a good start but not much is expected of them in this campaign.
