EPL Power Rankings For Round 10

EPL

The biggest change in the EPL power rankings this week comes at the top as the second and third-place teams swap places. However, the favorites are running away with the league in this early part of the season. Manchester City now has a five-point buffer on Manchester United, who is tied with Tottenham in second place. After that, Chelsea and Arsenal round out the Top 5 with 16 points apiece.

Many teams will be taking part in the EFL Cup (which is in the fourth round) in the middle of the week, so that makes for a packed fixture list for the top half of the power rankings, so it’ll be interesting to see which teams will rotate their players and pick the league over winning the EFL Cup, which is a choice that they’ll have to make. Let’s take a closer look at this week’s power rankings, which are in order of the team’s futures.

1. Manchester City

Last Week: 1

EPL Title Odds: -400

Manchester City sit atop the table and are the only team in the league without a loss as they swept Burnley aside by a score of 3-0 at home. Sergio Aguero scored from the penalty spot and is now tied for the all-time lead in goals for the club, while Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane put the game out of reach for Manchester City, who have a five-point lead at the top of the table. Manchester City will host Wolverhampton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then they’ll travel to West Brom on Saturday in the league.

2. Tottenham

Last Week: 3

EPL Title Odds: +900

Tottenham is third in the table after they thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at home, powered by two more goals from Harry Kane. Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli both scored for Tottenham, who are now tied with Manchester United on points, but are behind on goal difference. Tottenham will host West Ham in a London derby in the EFL Cup on Wednesday and then they have a huge visit to Manchester United on Saturday.

3. Manchester United

Last Week: 2

EPL Title Odds: +1200

Manchester United is second in the table after a 2-1 loss at Huddersfield Town in which Marcus Rashford scored late to give them a chance, but Manchester United looked poor from the start of the game. Manchester United now have a big week coming up as they’ll visit Swansea City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, and then they’ll host Tottenham on Saturday as they try to get back on track against a team that is looking to challenge the Manchester clubs at the top.

4. Chelsea

Last Week: 4

EPL Title Odds: +2000

Chelsea is fourth in the league after a come-from-behind 4-2 win at home over Watford as Michy Batshuayi scored a pair of goals as a substitute. Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta both netted for Chelsea, who are now four points behind Manchester United and Tottenham. Chelsea will host Everton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday and then travel to Bournemouth on Saturday.

5. Arsenal

Last Week: 5

EPL Title Odds: +4000

Arsenal is fifth in the table and tied on points with Chelsea after a 5-2 win at Everton. Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez all found the back of the net for Arsenal, who scored three goals after going up a man thanks to a red card. However, it was on Arsenal to take advantage of that and it was a good win for Arsenal, who have a home game with Norwich City on Tuesday in the EFL Cup and then they’ll host Swansea City in the league on Saturday.

6. Liverpool

Last Week: 6

EPL Title Odds: +5000

Liverpool sits ninth after their loss at Tottenham in which Mohamed Salah scored, but Liverpool’s defense might have played their worst game of the season and that is saying something. Whether it is the manager or the players, something has to be done about this part of their game or Liverpool’s entire season will be done. They’ll host Huddersfield Town in league play on Saturday.

7. Watford

Last Week: 7

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Watford is sixth after their loss at Chelsea, but they can take to heart that they had the defending champions on their heels for most of the match until Chelsea’s quality eventually won out. Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra scored on either side of halftime for Watford, who are becoming one of the toughest teams to play in the Premier League and they’ll have a league game on Saturday when they host Stoke City.

8. Newcastle

Last Week: 9

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Newcastle is seventh in the table after a 1-0 win at home over Crystal Palace in which Mikel Merino scored with four minutes left in regulation to grab all three points. It wasn’t Newcastle’s best effort of the season at all, but you take as many points as you can when you can, and they capitalized to stay in the top half of the table. Newcastle will head to Burnley on Monday.

9. Burnley

Last Week: 8

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Burnley is eighth in the league after their loss at Manchester City in which they put up a good resistance as long as they could, but Burnley isn’t equipped to hold the leaders at bay for long (although to be fair, neither is most of the league). Still, Burnley is in the top half of the table for now and they’re at home for a big game on Monday as they welcome Newcastle to town.

10. Southampton

Last Week: 10

EPL Title Odds: +10000

Southampton rounds out the top half of the table in 10th place as they won 1-0 at home over West Brom.  Sofiane Boufal scored with five minutes left in regulation to secure the three points for Southampton, who are in the thick of things in a group that will battle to get into the top half for most of the season. The top of the league is out of reach, but Southampton should be too good for a relegation battle, so the middle of the table is where they’ll be all season. Southampton will head to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
