The Atlanta Falcons have officially named Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach, the team announced Saturday night. Stefanski, 43, previously served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns and is a two-time recipient of the NFL Coach of the Year award.
The hiring comes after Stefanski completed a second interview with the Falcons earlier on Saturday. The team evaluated several candidates for the position following a coaching search initiated after the conclusion of their 2025 season.
Stefanski brings a reputation for offensive creativity and player development. During his tenure with the Browns, he led the team to multiple playoff appearances and was credited with reviving the franchise’s competitiveness. His leadership in Cleveland was especially noted during the 2020 season, when he earned his first NFL Coach of the Year award after guiding the team to an 11-5 record and a Wild Card playoff win.
A veteran coach with over 15 years of NFL experience, Stefanski started his professional coaching career with the Minnesota Vikings, where he served in various offensive roles before eventually becoming the offensive coordinator. He joined the Browns as head coach in 2020 and coached there through the 2025 season.
In Atlanta, Stefanski takes over a team seeking stability and long-term progress. The Falcons have struggled with consistency in recent seasons, and the organization hopes Stefanski’s track record can help guide the team back into postseason contention. Team executives emphasized Stefanski’s leadership qualities and NFL experience as key factors in the decision.
Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who now holds a front-office advisory role with the team, was reportedly involved in the interview process. Ryan’s familiarity with the franchise and insight into team culture contributed to the selection.
Stefanski is expected to begin assembling his coaching staff in the coming days. A formal introductory press conference will be scheduled next week.
With this hire, the Falcons aim to turn the page and begin a new chapter focused on building a competitive and disciplined team under Stefanski’s guidance.
