Farmers Insurance Open Fantasy Lineup

After a string of birdie-driven tournaments to open the 2017 calendar season, the PGA Tour will make its return to California and the Torrey Pines Golf Course for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open. With one round to be played on the North Course and three on the South Course the golfers will have to deal with overcoming a total of 7,700 yards, which plays in to the fact that Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy will be extremely important. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy competitions for the Farmers Insurance Open.

Jason Day, $11,400

While the temptation was there to start this lineup with an absolute bomber in Dustin Johnson, there is something about a healthy Day rounding back in to form that is just too difficult to pass up. Day still packs plenty of power off of the tee and now that he finally seems to be back at full strength he should be extremely difficult to stop. The fact that he won this tournament in 2015 and has recorded three top-10 finishes here only reinforces our decision to go with Day as the top pick in our DraftKings lineup.

Dustin Johnson, $11,100

It almost seems unfair that we can plug in D.J. as the second pick on our board but with a trio of outstanding sleeper picks available to fill out the second half of our lineup we can afford to lock up the best two picks on the board. Johnson has the potential to absolutely dominate with his driver and should be motivated to get his 2017 calendar season on track at this event. It will be very interesting to see what D.J. has in store for an encore following his breakout 2016 season and we are definitely expecting a strong outing this week at Torrey Pines.

Gary Woodland, $8,600

Speaking of power off the tee, there aren’t many better than Woodland who ranked 10th in Driving Distance last season. Woodland has made the cut in each of his seven appearances at the Farmers Insurance Open and he was the 54-hole leader in 2014 and a 36-hold leader in 2016 before fading late. It will be on Woodland to put it all together with a complete round this week and at a very reasonable $8.6K it is worth rolling with him in this spot.

Martin Laird, $6,500

Laird is one of a handful of players that seem very underpriced heading in to this weekend and it is because of those players that we were able to spend big on our top three picks in Day, Johnson and Woodland. Laird is coming off a top-10 finish at the CareerBuilder Challenge last week and he has finished in the top-10 in each of the last two editions of the Farmers Insurance Open. Laird actually finished first in GIR percentage at this course a year ago so at just $6.5K in DraftKings competitions he appears to be a steal.

Adam Hadwin, $6,200

Hadwin undoubtedly would have traded his 59 for a win at the CareerBuilder Challenge last week but he talked about his confidence following the runner-up finish and considering his form it’s hard to figure out why he is available for just $6.2K. Hadwin has the tools to put together another strong performance this week at Torrey Pines and at such a low price he represents an outstanding value play.

Kyle Stanley, $6,000

It’s impossible to forget Stanley’s infamous collapse on the 72nd hold that resulted in him recording a runner-up finish here in 2012 and while he has struggled at this tournament ever since we are banking on this being the year that he finally exorcises his demons at Torrey Pines. He did placed 25th in this tournament a year ago so that is something to build off of. Meanwhile, Stanley enters this event ranked first on the PGA Tour in total driving and third in Greens In Regulation so at just $6K he makes for a very intriguing deep sleeper pick for the Farmers Insurance Open. We aren’t expecting a lot from him but if he can make the cut, that would be a good start.
