Can Anyone Challenge Mercedes?

It was domination last season for Mercedes, as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg combined to win 16 times. Mercedes won 18 poles a year ago and there was never any question as to whether or not Mercedes would win both the driver’s championship and the constructors’ title.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner said recently that although Daniel Ricciardo did well, winning three races, they were no real threat to Mercedes.

“The performance of the Mercedes power unit has been hugely impressive – they’ve done an amazing job to come up with such a refined and complete package,” Horner said.

Red Bull did finish second in the standings last season and they have finished first or second every year since 2008. This year it will be Ricciardo and Kvyat as teammates.

“The two drivers get on very well and know each other.” Horner said, “They both have a bit of banter outside the car, in the car they are both hungry, no quarter given racing drivers. That’s going to be an exciting new dynamic and they are going to be pushing very hard.”
