An on-court altercation late in the first half of Sunday night’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Washington Wizards led to four player ejections in a contest the Thunder went on to win 132-111.
The incident occurred shortly before halftime and involved Oklahoma City’s Jaylin Williams and Washington’s Justin Champagnie at the center of the confrontation. Following a review by the officiating crew, Williams and Champagnie were both assessed penalties that resulted in their removal from the game. Two additional players were also ejected in the aftermath of the scuffle, as officials sought to regain control and de-escalate tensions between the teams.
The altercation broke out during a dead-ball sequence near the paint, with players from both sides converging quickly. Officials and teammates stepped in to separate those involved, and the sequence briefly halted play while the referees examined the video and discussed the appropriate disciplinary measures.
After the review, the officiating crew announced the ejections, and the players involved were escorted to their respective locker rooms. The game resumed with adjusted rotations for both teams as coaches reshuffled their lineups to account for the loss of personnel.
Despite the disruption, Oklahoma City maintained its composure and continued to control the game on both ends of the floor. The Thunder preserved a comfortable margin for most of the second half, using balanced scoring and consistent ball movement to secure the 132-111 victory.
Washington, already facing a difficult challenge against an up-tempo Thunder squad, was forced to navigate the remainder of the night without Champagnie and the other ejected player. The Wizards attempted to respond with increased effort on defense and more aggressive drives to the basket, but they were unable to significantly cut into Oklahoma City’s lead.
The ejections capped a physical first half that featured chippy moments and frequent contact in the lane. While the confrontation briefly overshadowed the action, both teams finished the game without further incident. Any additional discipline, including possible fines or suspensions, would be determined later by the league office after a formal review of the incident and the officiating report.
With the win, the Thunder added another strong offensive performance to their recent stretch of games, while the Wizards left the floor facing questions about discipline and composure in heated situations. Both teams are expected to address the scuffle and its fallout as they prepare for their upcoming contests on the schedule.
