Master’s Odds Update: Spieth Jumps Out As Early Favorite

Tom Watson is a sentimental choice for the 2015 Masters

The 2015 Masters got off to a blistering pace with impressive rounds by a host of players that are in contention led by Jordan Spieth.  Spieth is atop the 2015 Masters Leaderboard after one day of action after shooting an eight under par 64 to set an impressive pace.  The great opening day has made Spieth a +225 favorite to win the 2015 Masters at some of the prominent offshore books.  Let’s take a look at odds to win and some intriguing matchups.

Foursome for Second Place

Charley Hoffman, Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Jason Day all followed with scores of five under par-67.  Hoffman is a +4800 longshot with Rose at +1295, Day a prohibitive +525, and Els at +4060

The Next Two

Russell Henley and Sergio Garcia both finished at four under par 68.  Henley was at +4850 to win the 2015 Masters with Garcia at +1539.

Fore!

The next four competitors, Bill Haas, Webb Simpson, Paul Casey, and Ryan Palmer, were tide at three under par 69.  Webb was a field selection at +845, Simpson was at +7250, Casey was at +4049, and Palmer was at +4050.

Swinging’ Seventies

Kevin Steelman, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Seung ul Noh, and Billy Horschel were all at two under par 70.  Steelman was in the field at +845, Reed was at +3424, Johnson was at +2074, Mickelson was at +3025, Noh was a field choice at +845, and Horschel was at +845 in the field as well.

Other Notables

Sentimental favorite Tom Watson shot a one under par 71 as did Bubba Watson,  Rory McIlroy, Graeme and McDowell.  Tom Watson was part of the field at +845,  Bubba Watson was at +2074,  McIlroy has dropped to +1000 after opening as one of the favorites, and McDowell was in the field at +845.

Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, Angel Cabrera, Padraig Harrington, and Matt Kuchar were all at even 72.  Scott was at +4550, Johnson at +2074, Cabrera was in the field at +845, and Harrington was also in the field at 845, as was Kuchar at 850.

Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, Bernhard Langer, and media favorite Tiger Woods were all at one over par 73.  Poulter was in the field at +845 with Westwood as well at +845, Sticker at +845, Langer at +845 and Woods a long shot at +8550.

Matchups

The betting board has some intriguing matchup opportunities for the second round of play in the 2015 Masters.

Tom Watson was a +122 dog against favored Vijay Singh at -142.  As much as fans would love to see a Watson run, he is likely to fade down the stretch.

Justin Rose looks like a dangerous dog at +103 against the favored Dustin Johnson at -110.  Johnson remains inconsistent and not a good choice to lay money with,

Rory McIlroy is a -155 favorite in an attractive matchup against Phil Mickelson who is at +135.

Jimmy Walker was a stunning -166 favorite against Tiger Woods, who was a +140 dog.

Ernie Els was a -140 chalk in his matchup against Bernard Langer, who was a +120 dog.
