FSU News: Four Year Old Selling Lemonade in Effort to Buyout Willie Taggart

With the prospect of a second straight losing season looming, Florida State Seminoles alumni and fans alike are starting to have second thoughts about Willie Taggart. There have been growing calls to fire the embattled head coach, but his enormous buyout makes it unlikely that anything happens in 2019. That hasn’t stopped some fans and boosters from trying to raise money to get rid of Taggart though, with a four-year-old boy selling lemonade in an attempt to grow the pot.

FSU Booster Daniel Grant and his son Grayton Grant are behind the idea. The two were able to raise $241 on Sunday, charging $20 a cup for lemonade and relying on tips from passers-by to help as well. Daniel declared that he was matching the money that they had raised, and he stated that he would send a check for $482 to the Seminole Boosters today.

Included in the check will be a note from Grayton that says:

“I am tired of losing football games and being made fun of at school for being a Seminole fan. At four, I am already starting to gravitate towards the color orange. You don’t want that for an innocent kid like me.”

The Seminoles are 1-2 on the year, and their one win was a 45-44 win over Louisiana-Monroe in overtime. Willie Taggart now has a 6-9 record in his second season on the job, leading to empty stands in Tallahassee and a growing apathy surrounding Florida State football.

Fans have been calling for Taggart’s exit since a season-opening loss to Boise State, and those cries have intensified as it appears FSU could miss out on a bowl yet again. The Seminoles’ 36-year bowl streak came to an end in Taggart’s first season, but his massive $17 million buyout makes it very difficult for the university to part ways with the coach considering its current financial situation.
