Gennady Golovkin Fights Willie Monroe Jr This Saturday

This Saturday, HBO Boxing presents a double-header featuring two world titles up for grabs.  The feature bout has the No. 1 ranked middleweight in the world, Gennady Golovkin (32-0) facing Willie Monroe Jr (19-1).  The co-main event bout sees undefeated Roman Gonzalez (42-0) defending his WBC World Flyweight title against veteran former world champion Edgar Sosa (51-8).

This card is intended as a showcase for the two undefeated world champions in Golovkin and Gonzalez.  Golovkin is already a big name and draw in boxing, as he won the 2013 Fighter of the Year Award and spent the last year nurturing his image internationally.

As for Gonzalez, he has been a world champion in three weight classes already, and this fight is serving as a re-introduction to the American public.  he has been competing in Japan against rugged competition and is appearing here in the hopes of getting bigger fights and also of adding championships in at least two other weight classes.  In the end, it is unlikely that either Monroe Jr or Sosa are going to be able to pull off the miracle win in their respective bouts.  Rather, if both Gonzalez and Golovkin fight tot he peak of what they are capable of, the real post-fight debate may involve who deserves a higher ranking on the pound for pound lists, Gonzalez or Golovkin.  The rest of the card is filled with four fights: an eight-rounder, a six-rounder, and a pair of four-rounders. However, it is unlikely lines will be offered for this card beyond the two main fights.
