German Bundesliga Round 27 – Three Match Preview

German Bundesliga Round 27

Second day of the German Bundesliga Round 27 will be played on Wednesday and with so many matchups in front of us, it is not easy to pick the right option to place our bets on. Therefore, we will throw in a three-match preview and let you decided which matchup is the right one. The three-match preview will analyze the FSV Mainz 05 who will host the Red Bull Leipzig, FC Augsburg 1907 who will measure their strengths against the FC Ingolstadt at the WWK Arena in Augsburg and VfL Wolfsburg who will host SC Freiburg.

FSV MAINZ 05 vs. RB LEIPZIG

3-Way: 1: FSV Mainz 05 +250; X: +250 Draw; 2: RB Leipzig +127

Spread +0.5: Mainz -128; Leipzig +125

Total +2.5: Over +112; Under -114

FSV MAINZ 05

The FSV Mainz 05 will be continue their battle for survival in the German top soccer competition this Wednesday when they host the RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga Round 27. Currently, they are just above the relegation line ranking 15th in the league table with the same number of points as FC Augsburg that is ranked 16th, below the relegation line with 29 points in 26 games. Mainz is 2-1-5 in the last eight games and 1-1-2 in the last four home games. They are coming off from three consecutive defeats against Darmstadt (1:2) and Ingolstadt (1:2) on the road and against Schalke 04 at home (0:1).

They’re in the desperate need of the positive result right now but it won’t be easy against the biggest surprise of the league, the second ranked RB Leipzig. Mainz has only two victories since the New Year (three draws and five defeats). At home, they are 5-4-4 with 22-34 goal difference (34-43 overall) and they rank 12th in the home league table with 19 of 39 possible points earned. Most common results at home are 1:1 draw and 2:0 win (both occurred twice). 46% of Mainz’s home games are over 2.5 goals while 38% of home matches are over 3.5 goals in total. Yunus Malli tops the team in scoring this season with six goals while five players have four goals so far in their accounts (Stefan Bell, Jhon Cordoba, Pablo De Blasis, Danny Latza, Levin Oztunali). Malli is also team’s leading passer with eight assists while Oztunali has four in his account.

Danny Latza (yellow cards suspension) is out for the Wednesday game. Gaetan Bussman (Groin injury) and Florian Muller (Groin injury) are day to day while Emil Berggreen (Cruciate ligament injury) is back in training but it is uncertain if he will play against RB Leipzig.

RED BULL LEIPZIG

The Red Bull Leipzig team represents the biggest surprise of the season in the German Bundesliga, in a positive way of course. They started the season with 10 wins in 13 games with no defeats but recently, it looks they are wearing out. Nevertheless, they are still highly ranked in the league table with only the defending champion Bayern Munich in front of them. They have collected 52 points in 26 games and have four more than the third ranked Hoffenheim. Leipzig is 3-1-4 in the last eight games and they are 1-1-2 in the last four away games. They are coming off from a 4:0 comfortable win over the Darmstadt at Red Bull Arena during the weekend.

The Red Bulls are 6-3-4 on the road this year with 21-17 goal difference (47-28) and they rank second on the away league table with 21 of 39 possible points earned. 62% of Leipzig’s road matches are over 2.5 goals and 38% of their away games are over 3.5 goals in total. Most common results on the road are 2:2 draw, 3:0 loss and 1:0 loss (all occurred twice). Timo Werner leads the team in scoring this season with 14 goals while Emil Forsberg and Naby Keita have eight and six goals in their accounts. Forsberg tops the team and the league in assists with 12 so far, while Naby ranks second with seven total assists.

Peter Gulasci (Flu) and Timo Werner (Hamstring/Strain) are doubtful for Wednesdaay game while Lukas Klostermann (Cruciate ligament injury) is day to day. Marius Muller (Elbow injury) has unspecified date of return.

FSV Mainz 05 is under pressure with relegation hanging in the air and every point will be valuable, especially at home. Although they might be able to overcome RB Leipzig team that struggles on the road lately and create a little upset, my safer bet is to go with the over 2.5 goals offered at +112.

MY PICK: Over 2.5 goals (+112)

FC AUGSBURG 1907 vs. FC INGOLSTADT 04

3-Way: 1: Augsburg +179; X: +229 Draw; 2: Ingolstadt +195

Spread 0: Augsburg -106; Ingolstadt +104

Total 2: Over -118; Under +108

FC AUGSBURG

FC Augsburg got slightly humiliated on the weekend when they left the Allianz Arena in Munich with six goals conceded. On the bright side, much better teams conceded more goals against Bayern this season so it’s not really as bad as it looks like. FC Augsburg is currently under the relegation line and a win over their next opponent who is ranked one spot behind them with seven points less would greatly improve their chances for survival. They are 2-2-4 in the last eight games and 1-2-1 in the last four home games. Last time Augsburg won a game in front of their home crowd was on February 5th, and it’s about time to see one again.

They’ve conceded at least one goal in each of their last 11 matches and they’ve also conceded at least one goal in 77% of their home games. Interesting fact is that 71% of Augsburg’s goals are scored in the second half. They are 3-5-5 at home with 13-20 goal difference (24-40 overall) and they rank 17th in the home league table with 14 of 39 possible points earned. Most common results at home are 1:3 loss and 1:1 draw (both occurred three times). Konstantinos Stafylidis leads the team in scoring this year with four goals while three players have three goals each in their accounts (Halil Altintop, Raul Bobadilla, and Dong-Won Ji).

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (Knee injury) is out for the season while Raphael Framberger (Meniscus injury) is expected to be back in mid April. Martin Hinteregger (Muscle injury), Konstantions Stafylidis (Muscle injury) and Caiuby Francisco Da Silva (Knee injury) are all doubtful while Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker (Broken leg, Ankle injury) is back in training.

FC INGOLSTADT 04

FC Ingolstadt 04 is also in a tough position right now as they are ranked 17th in the league table with 22 points in 26 games (seven points below the relegation line) and a battle for survival will be their play until the end of the season. They’re coming off from a very important 2:1 win over Mainz in the last round that raised the hopes of staying in the top German League next year. Ingolstadt is 2-1-5 in the last eight games and 1-0-3 in the last four away games. They are 3-1-9 on the road this season with 11-21 goal difference (25-43 overall) and they rank 14th in the away league table with 10 of 39 possible points earned. Most common result on the road is a 1:0 loss (occurred three times). Almog Cohen and Dario Lezcano top the team in scoring with four goals each while Markus Suttner leads the team in passing with four assists so far.

Robert Leipertz (Thigh injury) is doubtful while Moritz Hartmann (Thigh injury) is expected to be back in training in a few days.

Head to head battle for survival. Very unpredictable German Bundesliga Round 27 game but I would go here with at least one goal scored by both teams. In addition, I will throw in the Over just to spice things up a little bit.

MY PICK: Both team to score YES (+114)

Additional Pick: Over 2 goals (-118)

VfL WOLFSBURG vs. SC FREIBURG

3-Way: 1: Wolfsburg -125; X: +290 Draw; 2: Freiburg +430

Spread -0.5: Wolfsburg -125; Freiburg +127

Total +2.5: Over -106; Under +104

VfL WOLFSBURG

Our final German Bundesliga Round 27 three-match preview will be the clash between the VfL Wolfsburg and the SC Freiburg played at the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg.

The Vfl Wolfsburg will have a chance to extend their unbeaten streak to five games after they pulled a 3:3 away draw at the BayArena in Leverkusen in Round 26. We hope that you have followed our betting advice as we have predicted a lot of goals in that game. Mario Gomez was once again at his best scoring a hat-trick in only 9 minutes securing a very important point on the road and putting his team outside the relegation zone. The Wolves now rank 13th with 30 points to their name, but they are still miles away from being safe as the 16th ranked Augsburg is only one point behind.

The Wolves are 2-2-1 in their last 5 games suffering a 1:2 loss to Augsburg at home, then recording a 1:1 draw away against Mainz 05. The Wolves went on to connect to important wins, both with 1:0, away against RB Leipzig and at home against Darmstadt. Most recently the Wolves took home a point in a 1:1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. The Wolves have a 26-37 goal differential. At home, the Wolves are 4-2-7 with a 11-17 goal differential, winning 3 and losing 2 in their last 5 home games. Bruma, Luiz and Rodriguez will most definitely miss the game with injuries, while Dejagah and Didavi could see some action. Mario Gomez is displaying his full potential over the last 9 games, scoring a total of 12 goals.

SC FREIBURG

On the other side, the SC Freiburg has somewhat surprised the soccer nation in Germany as they are currently ranked on a pretty high 8th spot on the table with a total of 35 points won so far. At this point of the season, I believe that very few of the Freiburg fans have expected their team to be just 2 points behind the 6th spot and the possibility of reaching the European competition next season.

The Black Forest outfit holds a 10-5-11 record but has seen a slight dip in the form lately going only 1-2-2. Most recently they have suffered a surprisingly high 2:5 loss at home to SV Werder Bremen over the weekend, putting an additional pressure prior to the game at the Volkswagen arena, a place where they have not been victorious since 2012. On the road, the Black Forest outfit has won only 13 of possible 39 points and a 17-25 scoring differential, but have been playing much better lately going 2-2-1 and scoring 7 and conceding 8 goals. In 10 out of their last 11 road games, SC Freiburg has scored at least 1 goal. Coach Christian Streich will not be able to count on Stenzel and Hofler, as they are both out with injuries.

Although the Black Forest outfit has improved their road play as of late, I believe that they will not be able to conquer the Volkswagen Arena and will leave empty handed on Wednesday. It is about time that the Wolves display their full potential and unleash the dogs, scoring at least 2 goals and taking all three points in this one.

MY PICK: VfL Wolfsburg to win (-125)

Additional Pick: Over 2.5 goals (-106)
