Golf Fantasy: Weekend Wrapup

It was a busy weekend in golf fantasy with all of the major tours on the go. Patrick Reed picked up a couple of victories over the weekend with his fine performance in the final round at the Barclays. Meanwhile, Ariya Jutanugarn continued her dominance on the LPGA Tour at the Canadian Women’s Open while Thomas Pieters delivered on Sunday with a memorable performance at the Made in Denmark tournament. Here is a recap of the events from around the golf fantasy world this past weekend.

The Barclays

PGA Tour

Patrick Reed earned his fifth-career victory when he came out on top at The Barclays on Sunday. It essentially counted as a pair of wins since he won the tournament and locked in his spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Reed rallied from an early two-shot deficit to win the FedEx Cup playoff opener and assure himself a clear shot at the $10 million bonus. Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler needed to record at least a solo third to guarantee his spot on the Ryder Cup team but he faltered with a 74 on Sunday to finish tied for seventh at six-under. Fowler’s struggles included a missed par putt on the 15th hole and a double bogey on the 16th to fallout of contention for the win. His late collapse pushed him out of a spot on the Ryder Cup team. Sunday was the final day to earn eight automatic spots on the U.S. team and Fowler’s late collapse allowed Zach Johnson to sneak in to that eighth and final spot. Davis Love III will still have to make his four captains picks over the next three weeks. Meanwhile, other notable finishes included Jason Day tying for fourth at seven-under along with Gary Woodland and Adam Scott. Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth tied for 10th at five-under along with Justin Thomas. Next up for the PGA Tour is the Deutsche Bank Championship this week at TPC of Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.

She delivered another dominant performance as she clinched her fifth victory of 2016 at the Canadian Women’s Open on Sunday. Jutanugarn closed with a 12-foot birdie that sealed her four-stroke victory over Sei Young Kim and put a stamp on another outstanding weekend of golf from the 20-year-old. Jutanugarn kept her perfect 54-hole record intact as she has won each time she has led heading in to the final round this year. Meanwhile, other notable finishes included world No. 1 Lydia Ko finishing tied for seventh at 13-under, while the home favorite Brooke Henderson finished tied for 14th at 11-under.
