Golf Undigested Podcast – Episode 64

Golf Undigested

The Golf Undigested Podcast with Clark Burroughs, a former PGA Tour player and proud Ohio State Buckeye, dishes out his latest news and musings in the world of golf. For all the latest golf odds and predictions, never miss an episode of Burroughs’ insightful advice and hilarious observations into the greatest game of all, GOLF!

Burroughs starts Podcast #64 by taking us through last week’s action where we saw sudden death playoffs on both sides of the pond.

The PGA Tour was in Canada for the RBC Canadian Open and after 72 holes, Charley Hoffman and Jhonnatan Vegas were tied at 21-under par. Vegas makes a birdie on the first playoff hole to win his second consecutive title North of the Border and third in his career.

In Europe at the Porsche European Open, Frenchman Alexander Levy and Englishman Jordan Smith were deadlocked at 13-under par after regulation. They both parred the first extra hole and Smith sealed his first career European Tour win on the second playoff hole by making birdie.

Also in Europe, Bernhard Langer proved why he’s still the man to beat on the Senior circuit by winning the Seniors Open Championship by four strokes over Corey Pavin.

Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record stands at 86-59-12 for the year and 4-3-1 last week. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.

There are two tournaments on the PGA Tour this week. A secondary tournament in Reno, Nevada at the Barracuda Championship and the big show in Akron, Ohio at the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational where me may see a showdown of the world’s best players.

The PGA Champions Tour heads back to the United States, in Minnesota at the 3M Championship where Bernhard Langer and Kenny Perry are the betting favorites.

Should be an exciting week in golf!

Matchup of the Week

Jordan Spieth vs. Rory McIlroy

This will be the power matchup of the week. It will be interesting to see how McIlroy plays with a new caddie. He recently fired longtime caddie, J.P. Fitzgerald. Some think it will cost him. Stay tuned. Spieth, on the other hand, is on top of the world and hungry for more. The Open champion would love to add a WGC title to his resume. Spieth rolls over McIlroy!

CHALK

My pick of the favorites this week is U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka +1650. The former FSU star is on a roll, has gained so much confidence in the last month that now he knows he’s one of the best in the world. He will be hungry to add another big-time trophy to his collection.

STAY AWAY

Recently married Sergio Garcia +2600 is back in action at this week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational, a place he’s played 14 times. The problem is, there is something about the course that doesn’t bode well with the Spaniards game, in fact, he has just two top ten finishes in 14 starts. He just got hitched, his course history is lackluster at best and the reason to shy away from Garcia this week. Look elsewhere!

VALUE PICKS

The best VALUE on the betting board are two players that aren’t given much respect in the golf odds. Rafa Cabrera-Bello +5300 and Phil Mickelson +7250 have the goods to hoist the trophy this week and any week they tee it up. Bello won a few weeks ago at the Scottish Open and backed it up with a top five at the Open Championship. Mickelson knows he’s running out of time on making the President’s Cup squad this fall and when the chips are down, Lefty finds a way. Both players offer gamers the best value on the board.
