Golf Undigested Podcast – Episode 65

Golf Undigested

The Golf Undigested Podcast with Clark Burroughs, a former PGA Tour player and proud Ohio State Buckeye, dishes out his latest news and musings in the world of golf. For all the latest golf odds and predictions, never miss an episode of Burroughs’ insightful advice and hilarious observations into the greatest game of all, GOLF!

Burroughs starts Podcast #65 by taking us through last week’s action at the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational where Hideki Matsuyama blitzed the field on the final day by shooting a course record 61 to win by five over Zach Johnson and three clear of Charley Hoffman.

At the secondary tournament in Reno, Nevada, Chris Stroud eagled the last hole of regulation to sneak into a playoff with Greg Owen and Richy Werenski, then birdied the second playoff hole to secure his first win at the Barracuda Championship.

The PGA Champions Tour was in the Twin Cities for the 3M Championship and there was also extra holes involved to declare the winner. Paul Goydos and Gene Sauers were tied at 20-under par after regulation play and Goydos quickly ended the drama with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record stands at 92-65-12 for the year and 6-4 last week. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.

Should be another exciting week in golf!

Matchup of the Week

Rory McIlroy -150 vs. Jordan Spieth +120

This is the marque golf matchup of the week. Spieth needs a win to complete the career Grand Slam and McIlroy stands in his way on a course that he holds the course record and has won on twice. Rory will be hard to beat on a venue that clearly suits his game and not so much Jordans.
I’m laying the chalk and taking McIlroy.

STAY AWAY from Justin Rose

The Englishman pops up on the leaderboard about once a month and that’s not enough for the current Gold Medalist, who is still ranked in the top 15 despite his erratic play. Maybe his back is still bothering him or may be he’s just not getting the little white ball in the hole. Clearly, Rosey’s game is not in good form. He recently admitted that he’s not swinging correctly to avoid pain in his back. RED FLAG ALERT!

VALUE PICKS

Zach Johnson +7050 – The two-time major winner has finally found his groove with three solid starts and is heating up and primed to give it a run at the PGA. Although the course is long, ZJ is making a lot of putts and striking the ball the best he has all year. Great value here.

Brendan Steele +8050 – Who knows, maybe it’s this guy who comes out of nowhere to claim the Wanamaker Trophy. He won earlier in the year at the Safeway Classic, is currently 15th in the FedEx Cup standings and has the talent to win a major championship.
