Golf Undigested Podcast w/ Clark Burroughs: Nedbank Challenge and PGA Hero World Challenge Picks

Jordan Spieth looks to repeat at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

In this edition of the Golf Undigested Podcast our host Clark Burroughs takes us through another promising weekend in the world of golf where tournaments tip off tomorrow from two different locations. First, the Nedbank Golf Challenge gets going Thursday in South Africa from one of the country’s most recognized greens at the Gary Player Country Club. Favorites for this tournament include Henrik Stetson and Branden Grace, according to the sports books. One of the more popular picks to take home the crown has been Danny Willett (+1106 odds), along with longshot Bernd Wiesberger (+3024 odds).

Other interesting names at the Nedbank Golf Challenge include Lee Westwood, who is coming in at +3052 odds and Jaco Van Zyl (+4047). Willett, who’s from England, was last year’s winner at the Sun City tournament. He’s looking to take back-to-back titles and win a few million dollars from the $6.5 million prize purse. Fellow Englishman Westwood has won the tournament twice, in 2010 and 2011, and is looking to get his first tournament win since April of this year. The 42-year-old should be a great sleeper pick going into a tournament where he clearly feels comfortable.

At the weekend’s other tournament, the PGA Hero World Challenge, the big names in the sport will compete for the $3.5 million purse. Last year’s winner, young Jordan Spieth, will look to repeat on his performance with another win and is currently the big favorite at the sports books with odds just over +300. Right behind him on the odds board is Dustin Johnson (+651) and Justin Rose (+751). Other notable names include Bubba Watson (+1152), Rickie Fowler (+1202), Adam Scott (+1591), Zach Johnson (+2226), and Jimmy Walker at +4946 odds.

One of the trendiest picks for the tournament from New Providence in the Bahamas is Patrick Reed, who is getting 13 percent of the bets at +1248 odds.

In the second edition of the Golf Undigested Podcast, former pro golfer Burroughs tells us which of those names to look out for and who could make big splashes at this weekend’s tournaments.
