Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs is holding in and missed his second straight day of practice on July 30, according to NFL Nation’s Eric Woodyard. Lions coach Dan Campbell said he was “not even sweating it” as both sides work on a long-term deal. Gibbs completed a conditioning test Wednesday but was described as having “a little bit of a back” issue, so it is unclear if he will resume practicing immediately after a new contract.
Atlanta running back Bijan Robinson was present for a second straight practice on July 30 but did not take part in drills, NFL Nation’s Marc Raimondi reported. Robinson wore a Falcons jersey without a helmet or cleats, was seen chatting with teammates and appeared in good spirits. Neither Robinson nor the Falcons have commented on the ongoing contract discussions.
Tampa Bay defensive tackle Vita Vea has been holding in while requesting a trade, NFL Nation’s Jenna Laine wrote. Vea was on the sidelines during the first practice and stood with teammates during positional drills but did not practice on Thursday; coach Todd Bowles said Vea tweaked his back in the team’s conditioning test and was receiving treatment. Laine noted Vea is set to earn $17 million this season, none of it guaranteed, and has a per-game roster bonus structure capped at $1 million total.
Los Angeles Chargers outside linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu did not practice for a second straight day on July 30 while pursuing a new contract, according to NFL Nation’s Kris Rhim. Tuipulotu did more on-field work Thursday than on the opening day of camp, wearing a helmet and jersey for individual drills before working off to the side with a trainer. Meanwhile, New Orleans receiver Chris Olave, who had been participating only in limited drills, signed a four-year extension Thursday, NFL Nation reported.
