The Iona Gaels (4-10, 2-1 MAAC) will try to snap their eight-game road losing streak in a matchup against the Canisius Golden Griffins (5-10, 2-1 MAAC) at Koessler Athletic Center. The game gets underway at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 13, 2019.

Iona Gaels at Canisius Golden Griffins ATS Prediction

In the Gaels’ last contest, they were topped by the Niagara Purple Eagles, 95-90. Niagara’s rebounding was their largest strength. The Purple Eagles had more offensive rebounds (18 vs. three), defensive rebounds (33 vs. 26) and total rebounds (51 vs. 29). Iona’s Tajuan Agee put together a solid outing, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Golden Griffins were beaten by the Rider Broncs in their last matchup, 82-73. Getting to the free throw line was one of Rider’s largest advantages. They had 33 free throw attempts, while Canisius had just 11. With 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting, Isaiah Reese was Canisius’ high scorer.

After the Golden Griffins won both matchups against the Gaels last season, these teams will go head-to-head for the first time this year. In the most recent matchup, Canisius won 84-82. The Golden Griffins’ 7.7 turnover percentage was their largest advantage over the Gaels, who had a rate of 19.9.

Both teams have had a player take their game to the next level over their last five games. Agee (15 points,7.8 rebounds,1.6 steals) has been great for the Gaels while Reese (15 points,6.0 rebounds,4.4 assists,2.2 steals) has made solid contributions to the Golden Griffins.

It will be a showdown of opposite tempos as the up-and-down Gaels (ranked 37th in the NCAA in possessions per game) will look to push the more methodical Golden Griffins (143rd in possessions per game).
