Irish Boxing Odds June 30

Irish Boxing Odds June 30 – The fighting city of Belfast hosts promoter Frank Warren as he brings an 11 fight boxing card to the Odyssey Arena. The main events are set to air on BT sport in the U.K. and on the ESPN+ streaming service, check your local listings for start times.

The main event of the evening sees super featherweight action as Jono Carroll (15-0) faces off against Declan Geraghty (17-2) in his first defense of the IBF Inter-Continental belt. The fight is set for 12 rounds and can be considered a rivalry match as the two men have met before.

Carroll and Geraghty met in a controversial four round bout backinNovember of 2014 that is on the record as a DQ win for Carroll. It was Carroll’s third pro fight, while Geraghty was 6-0 heading into the bout. In Britain, 4 round bouts are scored by the referee, and that night Geraghty was ahead 30-28 heading onto the final round. It was the more experienced Geraghty’s fight to lose but lose it he did as he was deducted a point for throwing an elbow and was disqualified for headbutting. Carroll has remained undefeated since and that includes wins in two twelve rounnd fights, whereas this will be the first 12 rounder of Geraghty’s career.

Kudos to promoter Warren as he is delivering a competitive main event as far as the books are concerned, with the more experienced Geraghty favored -145 at the mid-point of fight week. This one is Ireland vs Ireland so it is anyone’s call which way the line will move as we get closer to fight time.

The co-feature sees undefeated 140 pounders meet over 10 rounds as Jack Catterall (21-0) faces Tyrone McKenna (16-0-1). Catterall enters the fight a strong favorite over McKenna, and his resume clearly shows that it is Catterall who has faced the stiffer competition on the way up. Catterall has gone 2-0 thusfar this year.

Perhaps the biggest star on this card is featherweight Michael Conlan as the former two time Olympian looks for his eighth professional win against Brazilian Adeilson Dos Santos (19-4).

Conlan won a bronze medal at the 2012 London games and he was robbed in Brazil in the 2016 games. It was during those games that he caught the attention of venerable promoter Bob Arum, and Conlan has been guided by the American throughout his pro career. The pair we even famously photographed together giving the boxing judges in Rio the middle finger.

Arum is not doing anything risky with an investment like Conlan, and the odds reflect that. Credit to Arum in presenting Dos Santos as the opponent because the Brazilian is a known quantity. Back in September of 2014 dos Santos went the distance in a loss with England’s Kid Galahad. Galahad has remained undefeated since and is on the verge of a world title shot. More recently, Dos Santos has gone 1-2 in his last three outings.

Below is a sample of the current odds. Check back later in the week for changes and additional fights.
