As the Denver Broncos prepare for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, quarterback Jarrett Stidham is set to make his first start in two years. Despite the high-stakes nature of the upcoming matchup, the team has focused on maintaining its regular approach in practice and preparation.
Stidham, who has served primarily in a backup role throughout the 2025 NFL season, now steps into the spotlight as the Broncos’ starting quarterback. The decision comes at a critical time, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Nevertheless, both Stidham and the Broncos have emphasized continuity, aiming to minimize disruptions in their weekly routine.
“We’re just trying to treat this week like any other,” Stidham said earlier this week. “There’s obviously a lot on the line, but that doesn’t change how we go about our work each day. The goal is to stay focused on what we’ve done all season to get here.”
Head coach Sean Payton echoed this sentiment, noting the importance of consistency, particularly when facing playoff pressure. “It’s about execution and trust in the system. Jarrett’s had plenty of reps in our system throughout the year and we’re confident in his ability. The key is not letting the moment become bigger than it is.”
Stidham last started in the 2023 season, with prior stops that include appearances for the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders. Despite limited starting experience in recent years, coaches and teammates have expressed confidence in his readiness.
“Jarrett prepares every week like he’s going to start,” said veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton. “So this isn’t a huge change for us. He knows the playbook, we have chemistry, and he’s got a calm demeanor that the whole locker room respects.”
With the AFC Championship approaching, the Broncos continue to emphasize preparation and cohesion. For Stidham, Sunday’s game represents not only an opportunity to help his team reach the Super Bowl, but also to demonstrate his capabilities on one of the season’s biggest stages.
