Jersey Corner with Casey Bryant: Mets Blues

Mets

Man, this title could work more than one way, huh.

Today we’re looking at the home blue alternates of the New York Mets. In the interest of full disclosure, I happen to be a Met fan tried and true. It’s been a rough existence.

I would think that most every fan likes the jersey of the team they support, and this is no exception. I quite like the blue and orange alternates.

These were made part of the full-time rotation in 2013, though blue jerseys have popped up a couple of times in the Mets’ past. In 1982, the Mets had a pullover v-neck jersey very similar to this for just one season. A year later, they altered the text and filled the script silver. But in 1985, they were scrapped altogether, and a blue base would not be used in the regular season for another 30 years.

Sure, the blue made an appearance in spring training and in batting practice in the mid-2000s, but it was not until Latino Heritage night in 2011 that the Mets re-introduced this design. The reception was warm and the jersey stuck.

They’re bright, they’re colorful, and they’re the kind of fun design that the fans can rally around. Are they without fault? No. How do they rank on the grading system?

Well, watch the video in the summary to find out!

Thanks, and let’s go Mets.
