Joining the Wolverine Wrestling Program is Finesilver

Matt Finesilver has joined the University of Michigan wrestling team as a graduate transfer, according to head coach Sean Bormet’s announcement on Thursday, June 30. Three-time Duke NCAA qualifier Finesilver will have one more year of eligibility.

“Matt joining our program has us extremely happy”, added Bormet. “I have the utmost regard for his family, and we are certain that Matt will be a serious, high-character student-athlete for us. He puts forth a lot of effort and enjoys competing. I’m eager to see what he can do in this situation. He should get along well with our team and our program, in my opinion.”

Over the course of his three competitive seasons at Duke, Finesilver amassed an 80-29 record at 174 pounds, including a 29-9 record the previous year. All three years at Duke, he finished in the top four at the ACC Championships, including a runner-up result in 2019, and he advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 the previous year. With 10 falls, 10 technical falls, and 21 major decisions in his collegiate victories so far, he has collected bonus points in more than half of them. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, Finesilver is anticipated to wrestle at 184 or 197 pounds.
