GREEN BAY, Wis. — Jordan Morgan will get his first extended opportunity at left tackle for the Green Bay Packers after spending the first two seasons of his career primarily inside at guard, according to the team.
Morgan was the No. 25 overall pick in the 2024 draft out of Arizona, where he played almost exclusively at left tackle. The Packers moved him to guard as a rookie and over his first two NFL seasons 10 of his 13 career starts came at either left or right guard, per team records. He played 186 snaps as a rookie and nearly 750 snaps last season.
Morgan got his first in-game work at left tackle in last season’s regular-season finale at Minnesota, when coach Matt LaFleur rested several starters; he played 51 snaps at the position against the Vikings. In the playoff game that followed, he returned to right tackle to fill in for an injured Zach Bako-Bewele.
Some teams questioned Morgan’s long-term fit at tackle because his arm length measured 32 7/8 inches, below thresholds some franchises prefer. Morgan told reporters on the first day of his 2024 rookie minicamp that he was intent on proving he was a true left tackle and protecting the quarterback on the edge.
The Packers kept Rasheed Walker at left tackle after David Bakhtiari’s career was curtailed by recurring knee injuries one game into the 2023 season. Walker held the job through the 2023 and 2024 seasons before signing a one-year, $4 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency this offseason.
General manager Brian Gutekunst said the organization is comfortable with Morgan at left tackle but stressed he will have to perform over a full season. “He’s done a really nice job through the spring, really nice job so far,” Gutekunst said. Teammate Aaron Banks drew a parallel to his own early career, saying he and “J-Mo” share a similar mindset and that Morgan has worked to secure the role. Training camp shuffling has not touched left tackle, with Morgan holding the job throughout camp.
