The all-women’s Invicta promotion comes to us tonight from Kansas City with their 12th event which is set to air on the UFC’s Fight Pass Network. The main event features Invicta strawweight champion Katja Kankaanpaa making her first title defense against Livia Renata Souza of Brazil.
Five of the main fights on the nine card bout have gotten lines at the sportbooks in the last twenty four hours. The co-main event features veterans Roxanne Modaferri and Vanessa Porto as they lock up in a rematch of a fight from back in 2008. Two of women’s MMA’s most experienced fighters square off in this one, with Modaferri winning their first outing. Things are very different now, as both women have fought at the highest levels and both women have put together two wins in a row.
Highlighting the international nature of Invicta, Faith Van Duin makes her second attempt at debuting in the USA from New Zealand. Back in November, her bout with Charmain Tweet was cancelled because of a problem with Tweet’s medical exams. This time, she gets Amanda Bell, who is riding a nice three-fight winning streak where she has finished every fight inside the distance.
Raquel Pa’aluhi will attempt to win a third fight in a row after enduring a three-fight losing streak, where she fought fighters that are now all in the UFC, when she faces Ediane Gomes. Gomes (10-3) has a solid record, but she took a loss in her last outing back in September, and prior to that had not fought since January of 2013.
