The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms with guard Kobe Bufkin on a two-year contract that includes a team option for the 2026–27 season, according to sources. The move marks a return to the Lakers organization for Bufkin, who was originally selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft.

Bufkin, a talented combo guard out of the University of Michigan, was drafted in the mid-first round but has had a journeyed path since turning professional. Details regarding his NBA experience and the teams he has played for since entering the league have not been made public at this time, but his return to Los Angeles suggests that the Lakers see potential in his skill set and ability to contribute to their current roster.

The deal reportedly includes a team option, indicating flexibility for the Lakers to evaluate Bufkin’s fit and impact with the team before making a long-term commitment. This type of contract structure is commonly used around the league with younger players who possess upside but have yet to fully establish themselves in the NBA.

Bufkin brings a combination of scoring ability, court vision, and defensive potential. Throughout his college career, he was noted for his poise with the ball and versatility on both ends of the floor. The Lakers have made incremental roster changes during the season to improve their depth and perimeter play, and Bufkin could provide additional options in the backcourt rotation.

The team has not yet released an official statement regarding the signing. It is unclear whether Bufkin will be available for the Lakers’ upcoming games, but his addition adds to the team’s depth as they continue through the second half of the regular season.

Bufkin’s return comes at a critical time, as teams begin to solidify their lineups for a playoff push. The Lakers currently remain focused on climbing the Western Conference standings and improving consistency in both offensive execution and defensive schemes.
