La Liga Fantasy: Week 19 Recap

After watching Sergio Ramos play hero for Real Madrid in their win on Saturday, there were a number of individuals that stepped up for Barcelona to help them pick up the most lopsided win of the weekend on Sunday. It should be no surprise that both teams are well represented on the following list. Here is a look at the top individual performances by position in La Liga fantasy from this past week.

GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona

Barcelona would have had no problem if their goalkeeper allowed a goal against Eibar but the fact that Marc-Andre ter Stegen stepped up and stopped every shot he faced was enough to separate him from the competition as the top fantasy goalkeeper in La Liga this past week. The Barcelona keeper turned aside all six shots he faced for the clean sheet win and produced the best fantasy score at his position. Barcelona is now in third place in the La Liga standings. They have been a great source for offense this season in terms of La Liga fantasy. They have scored 51 goals so far, which is the most in the Spanish Primera. As a matter of fact, no other team has more than 50 and only two other teams have more than 40.

Honorable Mention: Geronimo Rulli, Real Sociedad; Diego Alves, Valencia

D: Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid

Ramos delivered big time at both ends of the pitch in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Malaga as he scored both goals for his club while helping to hold their opponent to a single goal. Ramos opened the scoring in the 35th minute and then added an insurance marker that wound up standing as the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute to easily clinch top fantasy honors at his position. Real Madrid continues to ride the top spot in the Spanish Primera. They have managed to score 48 goals and allow just 17. Both numbers are the second-fewest in each respective category in La Liga.

Honorable Mention: Mark Navarro, Espanyol; Victory Laguardia, Alaves; Pablo Insua, Leganes

M: Vicente Iborra, Sevilla

Iborra delivered the most unconventional hat trick imaginable with two goals for Sevilla and then another for Osasuna that nearly helped cost them two points in their 4-3 win. Fortunately for Iborra, the own goal didn’t come back to haunt them and he more than held his own with two goals on three shots for Sevilla in the victory. Sevilla currently holds the second spot in the standings in La Liga. They are just one point back of Real Madrid for the top position and that’s mostly due to their explosive offense. Of note for La Liga fantasy players, Sevilla has scored 42 goals in 19 games, which is the third-highest output in the Spanish league.

M: Jose Antonio Reyes, Espanyol

Reyes was absolutely dominant for Espanyol in their 3-1 win over Granada as he finished with a goal, an assist and four shots in total while drawing two fouls. It was a complete performance from the talented midfielder and it was more than enough to earn the second-best fantasy score of the week at his position. With the win, Espanyol is now tied for ninth in the Spanish Primera with 26 points.

Honorable Mention: Carlos Soler, Valencia; Koke, Atletico Madrid; Franco Vasquez, Sevilla

F: Luis Suarez, Barcelona

All three members of Barcelona’s attacking trident pitched in on Sunday but it was Suarez leading the way with the best fantasy score among La Liga forwards. Suarez finished the game with a goal, an assist and five shots in total to help the Spanish giants pull out the lopsided result.

F: Lionel Messi, Barcelona

Messi got in on the action as well for Barcelona with one goal on four shots and two fouls drawn. Neymar also scored a goal for Barcelona to get in on the action but ultimately the shot total was the difference with Messi edging out Neymar by the slimmest of margins to earn a spot on this list of the top individual La Liga fantasy performances this past week.

Honorable Mention: Antoine Griezzman, Atletico Madrid; Neymar, Barcelona; Juanmi, Real Sociedad
