Loma vs Rigo Odds

Loma vs Rigo Odds Review- This Saturday night sees Bob Arum and Top Rank on Broadway as they bring us Vasyl Lomachenko vs Guillermo Rigondeaux from the MSG Theater in NYC.

This one is being billed as a once in a lifetime fight. Both men are in the conversation when you talk about the greatest amateur career in boxing history, with both resumes topped by two Olympic gold medals.  As professionals, both rose to the world championship level very quickly and both have flashed their elite level of technique often.

The advantage are slanted towards Lomachenko firmly in this one. Not only has he done the work in the last year to eighteen months to become the darling of boxing, he is also bigger, stronger and younger than Rigo. Lomachenko has already won world titles in two weight classes with just ten pro fights and he will be defending the WBO world title at super featherweight (130 pounds) in this one.

Rigondeaux is a perfect 17-0 as a professional but in that time period he has failed to catch on as a “hot item” the way Lomachenko has. That has led to problems with promoters and problems getting fights for the Cuban fighter. Rigondeaux held a world title at super bantamweight, which is two weight classes south of where this fight is.  He is widely seen as taking a risk in facing Lomachenko because he has little choice in the way of opponents in his weight class or even at featherweight.

The line opened wider for Lomachenko than it is today meaning money is coming in on Rigondeaux. A fighter with his depth of preparation does not take a challenge like this lightly and hei s well aware of what he is trying to do. He has succeeded at every other level of the sport.

It could be a once in a lifetime fight or it  could be a stinker. There is a chance that both fighters start to cancel each other’s strengths out, producing a chess match.

This is a boxing card where the main event is really a main attraction. The under card Top Rank has put together mainly consists of showcase fights for talent on the TR roster.

Heavyweight Bryant Jennings (20-2) continues his comeback trail in his second fight of 2017. Jennings took all of 2016 off after a pair of back to back losses to Wladimir Klitschko and Luis Ortiz stopped his momentum. Jennings is a known quantity in the heavyweight division so we are going to find out about Haynesworth in this one. The North Carolina resident has built up a 13-1-1 pro mark but he has only faced one fighter with a winning record.

Also huge favorites in their 6 round match-ups are prospects Michael Conlan (4-0) and Shakur Stevenson (3-0). The two youngsters were signed by Top Rank shortly after their runs in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, they have been in typical “crush” bouts as they gain experience. Stevenson won a silver medal in Rio representing the United States, while Conlan is from Ireland and his controversial exit in Rio made him a household name before ever fighting as a pro.

The evening’s main fights air on ESPN in the United States, check local listings for start times.
