Lomachenko vs Martinez Odds – HBO Boxing Saturday

Lomachenko vs Martinez Odds

Lomachenko vs Martinez Odds –  The Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City hosts HBO and Top Rank Boxing this Saturday, June 11th with an international card featuring some of the best of TR’s roster.

The fighter that Top rank wants to put in front of everybody is Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko. Lomachenko is a two- time Olympic gold medalist and one of the most decorated amateur boxers of all time, and he has already won a world title as a pro at featherweight, despite having only a 5-1 record. In Roman Martinez, he faces a tough veteran fighter who holds the WBO’s world title at super featherweight. What is more, Martinez has gone 1-0-1 in two fights with Orlando Salido, the only man to put a blemish on Lomachenko’s pro record to date.

Puerto Rican Olympian Felix Verdejo is in the co-feature bout as he faces Mexican rival Juan Jose Martinez. Any time you get a Puerto Rico versus Mexico match up it invokes fights of the past that have made it one of the hottest rivalries in all of pugilism. In this case, Martinez is making just his second fight outside of his native Mexico,  and his lone relevant loss comes in his only fight on the road. Meanwhile Verdejo has made a second home of New York City as Top Rank tries to replace the long departed Miguel Cotto as a draw to the tiny, fight-hungry island of Puerto Rico. Martinez is a bit of an x-factor as he is a bit of an unknown, but the 23-year-old Verdejo’s skill level should show itself to be head and shoulders above that of Martinez.

Top Rank is bringing China’s Zou Shiming (7-0) for his stateside debut. Shiming is the most famous boxer in all of China, as he won two gold medals at flyweight and has an outstanding amateur background. He is now 35, however, and coming to the pro ranks late, but Top Rank is determined to use him to open up the boxing market in the world’s most populous country. His lone loss came in his first attempt at winning a world title, and that remains the goal for Zou. In Ajtai, he faces a 19 year old out of Hungary. Zou has been boxing since before Ajtai was born, and that might or might not be a good thing for the aging star.

Check out the complete line-up for the June 11th card at the MSG Theater  in this Boxing Channel report. The undercard features unbeaten Mike Reed of Maryland (18-0) as well as other prospects from the Top Rank roster.
