Lucha Underground Recap: Three-Way Main Event

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week featured a huge Lucha Underground Championship match between Prince Puma and Matanza Cueto, which was ruined by Mil Muertes’s interference, as well as Cage going up 2 in a Best of Five Series against Texano. Tonight, Sexy Star defends her Gift of the Gods Championship against Jack Evans.

Opening Segment
El Dragon Azteca Jr. is scheduled to take on Pentagon Dark tonight, so he is in the locker room warming up. He got this opportunity by defeating Chavo Guerrero with Rey Mysterio as the special guest referee. While El Dragon Azteca is getting ready, Guerrero attacks him from behind with a steal chair and leaves him laid out in the locker room.

Famous B & Dr. Wagner Jr. (w/Brenda) vs. Mascarita Sagrada & Son of Havoc
Both Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada have been wronged by their opponents. Last season, Sagrada was Famous B’s first client, but he never picked up a victory during their partnership. This would lead to Famous B turning on Sagrada and finding a new client in Dr. Wagner Jr.. When Wagner Jr. debuted, it was against Son of Havoc to steal his unique opportunity. Now Sagrada and Havoc are back and are looking for revenge.

Dr. Wagner Jr. knocks Son of Havoc off of the turnbuckle, then hits a Michinoku Driver on Mascarita Sagrada. However, he tags in Famous B, who gets credit for the pinfall, and his first victory in the Temple. Winners: Famous B & Dr. Wagner Jr.

Match Announcement
Matt Striker announces the next week will be the return of the Dial of Doom. Also, since Mil Muertes cost Prince Puma the Lucha Underground Championship last week, the two will square off in an Ultima Lucha rematch in next week’s main event.

Sexy Star (c) vs. Jack Evans – Gift of the Gods Championship
Johnny Mundo tried to get a Gift of the Gods Championship opportunity since his team (The Worldwide Underground) defeated Sexy Star’s team (her, Fenix, Drago, and Aerostar) a few weeks ago. However, Dario Cueto realized that Jack Evans was the participant who scored the pinfall, so he is the challenger.

Before the match, Jack Evans warns that this match will not only be Sexy Star’s last match of the night, but also the last match of her career. He will then call himself the Star Destroyer instead of the Dragon Slayer. Jack Evans has been goofing off over the past several weeks, but Sexy Star is not someone to overlook. Her “No Mas” match against Mariposa is one of the most brutal matches the Temple has ever seen.

PJ Black makes his way to the ring to distract referee Rick Knox, and Johnny Mundo takes advantage to spear Sexy Star outside of the ring. Jack Evans tried to get the pinfall, but Sexy Star’s resilience allowed her to kick out. The Trios Champions even the odds, and while Fenix takes his turn at distracting the referee, Sexy Star takes PJ Black’s kendo stick and hits Evans with a low blow. Sexy Star finishes Evans off with a swinging fisherman neckbreaker to retain the Gift of the Gods Championship. Winner, and STILL Gift of the Gods Champion: Sexy Star

Backstage Segment
Due to Chavo Guerrero’s actions, El Dragon Azteca Jr. is in the hospital for the time being. This convinces Dario Cueto to substitute Guerrero in for El Dragon Azteca in the main event, but Rey Mysterio has other plans. After Dario Cueto sees the tension between Mysterio and Guerrero, he takes advantage of this to make the main event a triple threat match: Pentagon Dark vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio.

Pentagon Dark vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio
Each luchador in this match is very dangerous in their own way. Rey Mysterio is the King of Lucha Libre, and is the most experienced and influential competitor in Lucha Underground. Chavo Guerrero started his career a little after Mysterio so he has plenty of experience, but he will pick and choose his spots in his sly style. Pentagon Dark is one of the most destructive competitors in the Temple, breaking his opponents’ arms after defeating them.

Chavo Guerrero hits a superkick on Rey Mysterio, but Pentagon Dark was able to take advantage to pick up the win after a package piledriver. After the match, Mysterio escapes Pentagon’s attempt to break his arm, but Guerrero attacks him and attempts to injure his knee with a steel chair. Winner: Pentagon Dark
