Lucha Underground Recap: Loser Leaves Lucha

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week on Lucha Underground, we saw Sami Callihan in the Temple for the first time ever, and we also saw Johnny Mundo steal the Gift of the Gods Championship from Sexy Star. Tonight, we see a Loser Leaves Lucha match between two lucha legends: Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero.

Opening Segment
Although Matanza Cueto is defending the Lucha Underground Championship at Aztec Warfare, Dario Cueto could not resist one more edition of Dario’s Dial of Doom. For those who don’t know, Dario Cueto brings out a spinning wheel, and whoever’s name it lands on has an immediate Lucha Underground Championship match against Matanza. This time, however, the dial lands on “Dario’s Choice.”

Dario Cueto chooses a man whose arm was broken a few weeks ago by Pentagon Dark: Cortez Castro. Castro is an undercover cop, and Cueto knows that he is in cahoots with the organization trying to take him down (thanks to Castro’s former partner, Joey Ryan).

Matanza Cueto (w/Dario Cueto) vs. Cortez Castro – Lucha Underground Championship
Cortez Castro is a true fighter, because he is competing in this match with his arm still broken from a few weeks ago. Matanza immediately attacks the arm, and even breaks it again during the match. It is clear that this is Dario Cueto’s way of just destroying Castro.

Castro manages to put up some of a fight, but Matanza ends the short match with the Wrath of the Gods, continuing his undefeated streak. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Matanza Cueto

Backstage Segment
Joey Ryan is in Dario Cueto’s office, and both men are laughing about Castro’s recent suffering. They get interrupted by Son of Havoc, who is there on behalf of Mascarita Sagrada. Sagrada wants a match with Famous B, and Cueto makes it so. Next week, Famous B will take on Mascarita Sagrada.

With El Jefe, however, there is always a twist. Tonight, Son of Havoc will square off against Dr. Wagner Jr., with the result affecting the situation of the match next week. If Havoc wins, Mascarita Sagrada chooses the stipulation, but of Wagner wins, Famous B picks the stipulation.

In-ring Segment
Prince Puma beat Mil Muertes for the first time a couple weeks ago, but he is not done with the Man of 1,000 Deaths. Since Muertes put Konnan, Puma’s mentor, in a coffin, Puma wants to do the same to him. Puma issues a challenge to face Muertes in Grave Consequences (essentially a coffin match), and Catrina accepts on the behalf of Muertes.

Dr. Wagner Jr. (w/Famous B & Brenda) vs. Son of Havoc (w/Mascarita Sagrada)
While Son of Havoc is facing Dr. Wagner Jr. to help out Mascarita Sagrada, his problems with Wagner go back to Ulima Lucha Dos. This is where Wagner debuted in the Temple, and stole a unique opportunity from Havoc.

Famous B tries to interfere in the match, but it does not stop Son of Havoc. Havoc hits a Shooting Star Press on Wager to end the match, and to get the ability to choose the match stipulation for next week. Winner: Son of Havoc

After the match, Son of Havoc grabs a microphone and announces Sagrada’s choice of match type. Sagrada chooses a Believer’s Backlash match, and the Believers (the term for Lucha Underground fans in attendance) can bring whatever weapons they so choose.

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero – Loser Leaves Lucha
The name of the match might make it obvious, but whoever leaves this match must leave Lucha Underground forever. Rey Mysterio wanted this match because Chavo Guerrero has been a thorn in his side since he entered the Temple. Mysterio is on a mission to mentor El Dragon Azteca Jr. and to guide him on an unknown quest involving the ancient Aztec Tribes. Chavo Guerrero has been constantly getting in the way of that quest, so he has to go.

Chavo Guerrero Sr., who is outside the ring, enters the match and hits Chavo Guerrero Jr. with a steal chair. This ends up giving Guerrero the disqualification win, and Rey Mysterio has to leave Lucha Underground.

However, Dario Cueto will not have a disqualification finish in his main event. Cueto restarts the match, and this time there are no disqualifications.

Mysterio kicks out of a Gory Bomb and eventually hits the 619, forcing Chavo Guerrero to leave The Temple forever. Winner: Rey Mysterio
