Lucha Underground Recap: Black Lotus Triad Debuts

Photo from El Rey Network

On the previous episode of Lucha Underground, we saw two championship matches. The show started off with the Trios Champions (Drago, Fenix, and Aerostar) successfully defending their titles against the debuting Rabbit Tribe (led by former WWE Tag Team Champion Paul London). The main event featured Johnny Mundo cashing in his Gift of the Gods Championship, and with the help of a disguised Taya, he captured the Lucha Underground Championship from Sexy Star.

Opening Segment
Pentagon Dark is backstage preparing for his match later tonight against the Black Lotus Triad, when he runs into Vampiro. At Ultima Lucha Tres, Pentagon brutally attacked the color commentator and disowned him as his master. Vampiro has not forgotten, and says that there will be hell to pay, regardless of whether or not Pentagon Dark makes it out of his match.

Pentagon Dark vs. Doku – Gauntlet Match Part I
This match was scheduled last week, when Black Lotus approached Dario Cueto. At Ultima Lucha Tres, Pentagon Dark interrupted Black Lotus’ match against El Dragon Azteca Jr., and proceeded to break both of their arms. Lotus reappeared in the Temple for the first time two weeks ago, interrupting Aztec Warfare III with the Triad to get Pentagon eliminated from the match.

Now, she looks to get even more revenge, and Dario Cueto helps her out. In a normal gauntlet match, Pentagon Dark would face each member of the Black Lotus Triad individually until he loses. However, even if he loses, he still has to continue with the rest of the match.

The first opponent for Pentagon is Doku, who is about half the size of Pentagon, so he doesn’t take her seriously. She lands an incredible elbow drop on Pentagon, then attempts another. He counters into an armbar, breaks Doku’s arm, and the referee decides to end it there. Winner (via referee’s decision): Pentagon Dark

Pentagon Dark vs. Yurei – Gauntlet Match Part II
Yurei gets a strong start in this match, using her agility to her advantage, almost catching Pentagon by surprise. Then she goes all around ringside, slamming Pentagon into everything imaginable. Even if Pentagon wins, he is definitely going to be worn down for he matches against the third Triad member and Black Lotus.

Pentagon counters a flipping senton into a package piledriver, then breaks Yurei’s arm. The referee is forced to stop yet another match. Winner (via referee’s decision): Pentagon Dark

Backstage Segment
We take a break in the action to see Dario Cueto approaching his brother, Matanza, in his cell. Cueto offers him the chance to get his Lucha Underground Championship back next week in a match against Johnny Mundo, but Matanza refuses. Instead, he is after the man who eliminated him from Aztec Warfare (and the only person to pin him), Rey Mysterio.

Pentagon Dark vs. Hitokiri – Gauntlet Match Part III
Hitokiri (which translates to “assassin”), has the smartest strategy to start the match by sneaking up on Pentagon. Then, she starts attacking him with a steal chair (which is not a disqualification, since they encourage violence in Lucha Underground). This match is way more violent than the others, which is evidenced by Vampiro being happy on commentary.

The brutality surprisingly benefits Hitokiri in this one. After jumping off of Dario Cueto’s office onto Pentagon Dark, she hits the same Canadian Destroyer that eliminated Pentagon from Aztec Warfare to pick up the victory. Winner: Hitokiri

Pentagon Dark vs. Black Lotus – Gauntlet Match Part IV
Pentagon is still laid out from the Canadian Destroyer, when Black Lotus (his final opponent) comes down to the ring with the rest of the triad. Instead of letting the match start, Black Lotus knocks out referee Marty Elias and then proceeds to break the arm of Pentagon Dark (how the tables have turned). El Dragon Azteca (who suffered the same fate as Black Lotus at Ultima Lucha Tres) then returns to the Temple, and then breaks Pentagon’s good arm.

Backstage Segment
In a brief segment before the show ends, we see Vampiro waking Prince Puma up from inside his coffin (from Grave Consequences against Mil Muetes), so a potential alliance could be brewing.
