Lucha Underground Recap: Two Huge Matches

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week on Lucha Underground, Matanza Cueto destroyed Cortez Castro in a Lucha Underground Championship title defense, and Chavo Guerrero was forced to leave the Temple forever. Tonight, Famous B and Mascarita Sagrada have a Believer’s Backlash match, and Prince Puma goes head-to-head with Mil Muertes in Grave Consequences.

Opening Segment
Catrina is with Mil Muertes, who is preparing to take on Prince Puma later tonight. She gives the Man of 1,000 Deaths an ultimatum: if he loses, Catrina will not bring him back (she has previously with the Aztec stone).

Famous B (w/Brenda) vs. Mascarita Sagrada – Believer’s Backlash
Last week on Lucha Underground, Son of Havoc defeated Dr. Wagner Jr., giving Mascarita Sagrada the ability to choose the match stipulation for this contest. This match is unique to the Temple, and it involves the fans. The fans at ringside are allowed to hit the luchadores involved, but they are aware that the luchadores are allowed to hit back. On top of that, Mascarita Sagrada encouraged the “Believers” to bring whatever weapons they so choose, and anything they bring is allowed in the match.

Weapons used in this match: football shoulder pads, perfume, a picture frame, a bowling ball, popcorn, a trash can, croquet mallets, Famous B’s tie, a step ladder, the announce table, Matt Striker’s shoe, and a cream pie

Dr. Wagner Jr. tries to interfere in the match, but Son of Havoc rushes the ring and takes him out of the picture. After Mascarita Sagrada hits Famous B with Matt Striker’s shoe, the mini luchador hits an incredible tornado DDT to pick up the win and to end a stupidly entertaining match. Winner: Mascarita Sagrada

Backstage Segment
Killshot approaches Dante, the mysterious man who attacked him a few weeks ago. Killshot wants whatever happened in their past to be put behind them, and Dante agrees. However, Dante seems like he has other plans.

Mariposa, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, The Mack, Ivelisse, & Jeremiah Crane vs. Killshot, Argenis, Dante Fox, Texano, & Cage
With Survivor Series looming, it is not surprising to see another 5 on 5 match where the team members don’t exactly get along. However, this match doesn’t just give the winning team bragging rights. Instead, the winning team will be guaranteed spots in Aztec Warfare next week.

This matches several rivalries: Cage and Texano, Mariposa, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, and Ivelisse, Killshot and Dante Fox. There are also two newcomers to the Temple in this match: Jeremiah Crane (formerly known as Sami Callihan/Solomon Crowe; currently known as Ivelisse’s boyfriend) and Dante Fox (also known as AR Fox outside of the Temple).

During the match, Ivelisse hits a hurricanrana on Killshot but has a nasty landing on her ankle. She has had an ankle injury in the past, so she could have broken it again.

Dante Fox turns on Killshot, and leaves him wide open for Marty “The Moth” Martinez to take advantage and get the pinfall. Next week we will find out if Ivelisse is healthy enough to compete in Aztec Warfare, or at all. Winners: Mariposa, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, The Mack, Ivelisse, & Jeremiah Crane

Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) – Grave Consequences
The rivalry between Prince Puma and Mil Muertes goes way back to the first Ultima Lucha, where Mil Muertes became the second Lucha Underground Champion. The two Temple veterans had not squared off again in one-on-one competition until a few weeks ago, where Puma picked up an arguably surprising victory over Muertes. Last week, Prince Puma decided to put this feud to rest (joke unintended, but it works) by challenging Muertes to Grave Consequences.

The only way to win this match is to put your opponent in the provided coffin and shut it.

After slamming Prince Puma on the concrete, Mil Muertes picks up the former Lucha Underground Champion and gingerly places him in a coffin. While Muertes won the match, the future of Prince Puma is unclear. Winner: Mil Muertes
