Lucha Underground Recap: Mack’s Set for Gold

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week on Lucha Underground, Jeremiah Crane and PJ Black penciled their names into the finals of the Battle of the Bulls tournament, joining Cage and The Mack. Tonight, we find out who wins the tournament to become the new #1 Contender for the Lucha Underground Championship. Following that in the main event, Sexy Star challenges Johnny Mundo for the Lucha Underground Championship inside a steel cage.

The Mack vs. PJ Black vs. Jeremiah Crane vs. Cage – #1 Contender’s Elimination Match (Lucha Underground Championship)
After four Fatal Four Way matches over the past two weeks, we have the finals to the Battle of the Bulls tournament. All four competitors in this match are quite different from each other. Cage is perhaps the strongest man in the Temple, outside of Matanza. The Mack is about the same size as Cage, but

Cage is in the middle of a Best of Five series with Texano, which is something that Texano certainly hasn’t forgotten. Texano interferes in the match, and with his rops wrapped around his fist, clocks Cage right in the jaw. Everyone else actually involved in the match then proceed to hit Cage one by one for the elimination. Eliminated: Cage

Jeremiah Crane fails to eliminate PJ Black after a double underhook piledriver, and The Mack hits Crane with a stunner from the second rope to eliminate the man from “the last house on the left.” Eliminated: Jeremiah Crane

PJ Black shows his arrogance a little too much, by using The Mack’s stunner against him. The Mack immediately kicks out, does a stunner of his own, then pins the Darewolf to become the new #1 Contender. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: The Mack

Backstage Segment
Last week, Kobra Moon and her new henchmen kidnapped Drago and brought him back to their tribe. Fenix and Aerostar (Drago’s former fellow Trios Champions) look for Drago backstage, but they get jumped from behind by Kobra Moon and her allies. After Aerostar and Fenix are laid out, Moon warns them that next time, it will her “her” Drago that will leave them for dead.

We shift gears to Dario Cueto’s office, where Jeremiah Crane demands a match against Mil Muertes for next week. El Jefe obliges, giving Crane what he wants. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Crane lifts up a panel in Cueto’s office ceiling and grabs a Ouija board that he apparently put there when he was a child. In the hallway outside of Cueto’s office, Crane runs into Katrina, and says that when he takes care of Mil Muertes next week, he will have Katrina all to himself. Keep dreaming there, Crane.

Johnny Mundo (c) vs. Sexy Star – Lucha Underground Championship (Steel Cage Match)
Sexy Star made history when she won Aztec Warfare III to become the first female Lucha Underground Champion, as well as the first person to win a match against Matanza Cueto. The following week, Johnny Mundo would cash in his Gift of the Gods Championship to capture the Lucha Underground title from Sexy Star with a little help from his friends in the Worldwide Underground. Sexy Star would then defeat PJ Black two weeks ago to earn this championship rematch, with the Worldwide Underground being banned from ringside. Whoever wins this match will have to defend the belt against the Mack.

Sexy Star would seemingly have the match in the bag, but instead of escaping the cage to win, she hit a cross body from the top of the cage onto Johnny Mundo. Mundo would then kick out, and when the two are jocking for position at the top of the cage, Mundo resorts to underhanded tactics by removing Sexy Star’s mask. While she tries to get her mask back on to prevent embarrassment, Mundo leisurely escapes the cage to cowardly retain the gold. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Johnny Mundo

After the match, The Mack surprises Johnny Mundo at the top of the stands and lays him out with a stunner.
